    Re: Even the Braves

    jianoran,

    1) If you want to do reports based on the alternate version of the NFL that exists in the "Even the Braves" universe, you may do so. (Really, anyone can create their own spinoff, they don't need my permission to do so.) You'd probably want to put that version in the Football Mogul thread if you're using Football Mogul to generate game results.

However, the version of the NFL that exists is different. The AFL -- the American Football League -- folded in the ETB universe, so there will be no merger of leagues because only the old NFL exists. Furthermore, Pete Rozelle is now the baseball commissioner after being fired as football commissioner in the ETB universe. If you want to know what NFL teams exists, I could work something up, but undoubtedly all of the old pre-1968 NFL teams exist.

    2) If you want to diverge from this universe and create your own dynasty using one of the old game files from ETB, I have them. However, some only exist in BM2006, some exist in BM2007 and the most recent in BM2008. I would have to know which one of these you wanted, so you'll have to name a year.

The most recent year files are...uh...corrupted because BM screwed up on the process that imports game files. Hall of Fame features don't work, there are TWO Mickey Mantles and Hank Aarons on the leaders list, the Encyclopedia goes daffy...don't get me started.

I'll just post the most recent one in case anyone wants to look at stats, etc.
This is at the end of the 1967 regular season, before the ALCS-NLCS.

    jianoran,

Sure. But you're going to have to wait for me to write up the league championships and World Series before I can give it to you. Or, you can just use the attached file above.

If you want to wait till the World Series is over, do you want me to do my re-signings, or do you want the file before that happens?

Morgan 5-6; Braves Win Game 1 In Extra Innings
Perkins Gives Up Only Two Hits in Five Innings

LOS ANGELES -- If there's anyone glad that Joe Morgan is back at full strength, its Manager Gil Hodges of the Boston Braves. "Joe carried this team on his back in Game 1," said Hodges, "he did everything but sweep the plate".

During the Braves 4-3 win over the home Los Angeles Stars, Morgan went five for six, with two stolen bases and run scored and a run batted in. Whereas Mickey Mantle of the Stars went 1 for 5 with only a single in a disappointing first post-season appearance since 1954.

Danny Kravitz of the Stars scored the first run in the first inning, driving in Mickey Mantle, who led off the game with his only hit of the night. The Stars had a chance to add to this total in the bottom of the fourth, but blew their chance thanks to Joe Morgan's defensive play, as Clete Boyer lined out to Morgan and then Morgan doubled Alex Jenks off second in an unassisted double play to keep the score 1-0 in favor of the Stars.

Howver, the Braves got on board when Joe Morgan got on first in the top of the fifth off an error by Rick Reichardt in left field. Two singles later, the Braves had tied the game up at 1-1. Morgan would then drive in a run in the sixth with a single off Stars pitcher Phil Regan.

Jose Santiago, relieving Cecil Perkins, gave up a walk and three singles in the bottom of the sixth, allowing the Stars to score two runs and take the lead 3-2. But in the top of the eighth, the Braes would score a walk and two singles off Bob Heffner for the tying run.

In the top of the 11th, walks by Dick Smith and Ellis Burton allowed Tommy Davis to hit the go ahead RBI single. Don Carpenter would not allow any of the Stars to reach a base in the bottom of the 11th, and the Braves had the victory.

Yankees Get Rude Welcome From Seals in 10-5 Loss
Yanks Proctor Gives Up Four Runs in Four Innings

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Yankees are used to winning games anywhere, but Manager Leo Durocher of the Seals gave a warning. "We can beat these guys. The Seals can go all the way. You listen." And the Seals were ready to back up their manager's bold words with a 10-5 victory in Game 1 of the ALCS.

With 23-year old Canadian Fergie Jenkins on the mound for the Seals in his first post-season Star, Roberto Clemente game him a rude introduction in the first inning with a solo home run that put the Yanks up 1-0. Jim Proctor, on the mound for the Yankees, had a good first inning and it seemed that the defending American League champs were off to a ho-hum start.

Bob Johnson, an free-agent acquisition from the Giants, would tie it up for the Seals with a lead off homer to left in the top of the second. After that, Jenkins settled down, giving up only three hits in the first four innings. Whereas Proctor gave up a walk, a single to left scoring Yankees acquisition Gene Oliver, a single, a double and a two-RBI single by Don Blasingame in the bottom of the fourth, allowing the home team to take a 4-1 lead after four innings.

However, Don Wert silenced the crowd in the top of the fifth as he hit a three-run homer to right off Jenkins to tie the score at 4-4. Furthermore, to the dismay of the Seals crowd, Pete Mikkelsen replaced Jenkins on the mound for the Seals with the bases load in the top of the fifth. Lee Maye would hit the ball back to the pitcher, but Mikkelsen was forced to make the play at second base as another Yankees run scored, giving the Yanks a 5-4 lead.

The Seals, however, were not to be stopped. Eddie Watt came in for the Yankees in the bottom of the sixth, gave up a walk to Jimmie Hall, and singles to Don Blasingame and Ray Barker. This allowed left-fielder Davin Brown, who hit 41 homers this year, to hit a grand slam shot that cleared the bases and put the Seals up 8-5.

Larry Beggs held off the Yankees in the top of the eight, giving up a single and two walks to load the bases but not allowing a run to score. Ed Bauta, relieving for the Yankees, would allow a double to Don Blasingame and a home run by Don Giles to extend the Seals lead to 10-5. Beggs would pitch the top of the ninth, and give up only one walk to secure the Seals very first post-season victory.

Mantle Gets Two Triples, Stars Tie Up NLCS With 5-3 Win
Clemens, Kravitz Contribute With Two Wins Each

LOS ANGELES -- Mickey Mantle went 2 for 4 with a couple of triples as the Stars scored 11 hits and evened the National League Championship Series at one game apiece with a 5-3 win over the Boston Braves. The series will retun to Boston for the final three games, if necessary.

Mantle scored the first hit in the game with a double down the right field line that he was able to stretch to a triple, beating a throw from the Braves' Manny Mota. Danny Kravitz drove in Mantle with an RBI single, putting the Stars up 1-0.

Ellis Burton would answer in the top of the second with a solo home run off Fred Newman to tie the score at 1-1. However, Clete Boyer would answer with a solo home run of his own off the Braves' Bill Graham to put the Stars up 2-1.

The Braves would play small ball in the top of the fifth, leading off with a Pumpsie Green walk. Green would advance all the way to third on a single by Tommy Davis and then tag up and reach home as Tim McCarver flied out to Mantle in center field, allowing the Braves to tie the game at 2-2.

Mantle would score his second triple in the third inning, and this time, he'd try for an inside-the-park home run, testing his legs against the arm of Braves right fielder Manny Mota. Unfortunately for the Stars, Mota would make the throw to McCarver at the plate and Mantle's triple would be for naught.

Despite the lack of offense from the visiting Braves, the game would remain close until the bottom of the eighth when Lindy McDaniel would come in to pitch and give up two singles, allow a sacrifice fly by Doug Clemens, and hit Alex Jenks with a pinch. Manny Mota would make an error by misjudging a Rick Reichardt fly ball, and another run would score, and pinch-hitter John Oldham would drive in a run off an RBI single to put the Stars up 5-2 going into the ninth.

Stars reliever Nigel Schrum would give up a walk to Dick Smith and a double to Ellis Burton, driving in another Braves run and closing the gap to 5-3 with two out and Willie McCovey coming in to pinch-hit. However, Schrum would get McCovey to fly out to left for the final Braves out and getting the first win in the 1967 NLCS for the Stars, tying the series.

    Re: Even the Braves

Seals put Yanks on Ropes With 8-5 Win in San Francisco
Seals One Win Away from AL Pennant; Yankees Streak in Jeopardy

SAN FRANCISCO -- The New York Yankees amazing streak of eight consecutive American League pennants is in more danger now than ever, thanks to an amazing 8-5 win at Seals Stadium by the San Francisco Seals. If the Seals win Game 3 in New York, it would be the first AL Pennant by the Seals and it would be the first time in ten years that a New York team was not represented in the World Series.

Initally, Dick Ellsworth of the Seals pitched poorly, giving up a double to Don Wert, a triple to Joe Torre and a single to Rafael DeJesus, allowing the Yankees to score two quick runs before the Seals had a chance to bat. The Seals had a chance to score in the bottom of the second when Yankees starter Wayne Genser gave up two walks and then a single to Jimmie Hall, loading the bases with two out, but Don Blasingame would ground out to short and end the inning.

In the top of the 3rd, Roberto Clemente would hit his second home run of the ALCS, homering over the center field fence to put the lead at 3-0 Yankees. In the next inning, Yankee pitcher Wayne Genser hit an RBI single, putting the Yanks up by four runs and the Seals looked as if they'd drop Game 2.

But the bottom of the fifth would be a big inning for the Seals, as they scored six runs off Genser, three of those runs coming off a home run by Bob Johnson. After Johnson's home run, Gene Oliver would walk and then Rocky Colavito would come hit the second homer off Genser to left field, which gave the Seals an unexpected 6-4 lead over the visiting Yankees.

However, the Yankees were no stranger to the home run. With Seals reliever Larry Beggs on the mound, Don Wert hit a solo home run off Beggs in the 7th to close the gap to 6-5 Seals. However, Yankee reliever Eddie Watt would give up the third Yankee homerun given up to San Francisco that night, a two run homer by pinch-hitter Jackie Davis that put the Seals in the lead 8-5. It was Davis's first post-season home run in his career.

Frank Linzy would get the Yankees out in the 9th. The series goes to New York for Game 3. If the Seals win any of the next three games against New York, it would be the very first pennant ever won by an expansion team.

    Re: Even the Braves

Koufax Can't Contain Braves, Stars Lose 5-3 in Game 3
Koufax Strikes Out Six in Six Innings; Drysdale Strikes Out Seven in Seven

BOSTON -- In Sandy Koufax's first post-season showcase, he was dominant, striking out the Braves six times and holding the Braves to one hit for the first five innings. Despite getting 11 hits from his Stars teammates, Los Angeles couldn't come through in the cold Boston weather as the NL East champs won 5-3 and Boston took a two games to one lead in the NLCS.

Alex Jenks got the first hit off Braves pitcher Don Drysdale, a home run in the second inning that put the Stars up 1-0. However, despite the early lead, the Stars looked shaky under the pressure of the Boston crowd, with Doug Clemens singling Mickey Mantle to third in the top of the third, then getting picked off at first by Drysdale to make the first out of the inning, an inning which would leave Mantle stranded at third. The Stars compounded their baserunning errors in the top of the fourth, when Alex Jenks doubled and tried to stretch the hit to a triple, but Tommy Davis's throw to Pumpsie Green caught Jenks out at third.

Mantle was once again abandoned at third base in the fifth inning, with Don Drysdale striking out three batters in the fifth. Drysdale's first post-season appearance since 1960 would prove as impressive as Koufax's, with Drysdale striking out seven in seven innings.

The Stars abandoned another runner on second in the sixth, but Koufax gave up a single and walk in the sixth before striking out Dick Smith for his sixth strikeout of the game. However, Tom Carroll would double into right field and drive two runs in, putting the Braves up 2-1. Ellis Burton would drive in Carroll with a single to center, and the Braves would lead 3-1.

In the top of the seventh, Drysdale would give up a single and two walks to load the bases, before getting the next three batters out to save the lead. Phil Regan would come into to face the Braves in the bottom of the seventh, and after getting the first out, Regan would give up a solo home run to Braves pinch-hitter Floyd Robinson. Joe Morgan and Dick Smith would double to extend the Braves lead to 5-1.

With Lindy McDaniel on the mound, Dick Stuart would manage to hit a two-run home run to close the gap to 5-3. McDaniel, however, would get the next two outs for a critical win during a cold Boston night.

Thanks CatKnight. We've not had a decisive win yet, so my fingers are still crossed.

Killebrew Makes Return to Yankees In Big Way
Home Run in 8th Keeps Seals from Sweeping ALCS

NEW YORK -- Harmon Killebrew, out of the Yankees lineup since October 7th with a sprained finger, was finally cleared to play in the ALCS with the home Yankees facing elimination. His eighth-inning home run saved the Yankees with a 4-2 win and closed the Seals lead in the ALCS to two games to one.

It was a rocky start for the home team in the first inning with Jay Ward caught stealing second by ex-Yankee Gene Oliver and with Roberto Clemente thrown out at third by Rocky Colavito after a double to right field.

The San Francisco Seals would find themselves ahead in the top of the third due to Rick Wise reaching second on a error by the Yankees Stuart Perry as he outran a hard grounder to center. In the bottom of the third, however, Jay Ward would double and Don Wert would hit an RBI single and tie the game 1-1 for the Yankees.

The game would remain tied until the 6th inning with Davin Brown hitting a double to right field and Gene Oliver hitting an RBI single, giving the Seals the lead again at 2-1. But Joe Torre would answer with a solo home run off Seals pitcher Rick Wise to tie the game again.

The 7th inning faced close calls for both teams, with Foster Castleman of the Seals thrown out at second trying to stretch a single and Bill Kern of the Yankees, pinch-hitting for Bob Hendley, making it to second on an error by Seals left fielder Davin Brown. Kern, however, would remain stranded and the game would be tied after seven innings.

Wise however, gave up another run in the top of the eighth. With runners on first and third, Joe Torre grounded to first for a 3-6-1 double play but drove a run in. Wise would then face Harmon Killebrew. The 21-year old Wise gave up a fastball and Killebrew hit it over the center field fence, a 480 foot towering home run that put the Yanks up 4-2. Ed Bauta, pitching for the Yankees since the eighth inning, made quick work of the Seals in the 9th, striking out both Gene Oliver and Rocky Colavito to secure the Yanks first win.

    Re: Even the Braves

Braves Beat Stars 7-3 on Five-Run Inning, Win NLCS
    First Braves Pennant Since 1960

BOSTON -- With a cold front lowering game temperatures to 37 degrees, the Braves were definitely warm as they took a 5-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back, defeating the Stars 7-3 for their first National League pennant since 1960.

Jim Bouton struck out the first two batters, Mickey Mantle and Doug Clemens, to clue Los Angeles fans that it was going to be a rough day. Earl Wilson of the Stars had a tougher time, giving up four singles and two doubles in the bottom of the fifth, allowing five runs to score and giving the Braves an early lead.

The Braves lead was comfortable until the fifth inning, when Bouton gave up two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out. Doug Clemens would fly out to left, allowing one run to score from third, and then Danny Kravitz would single over the head of Braves first baseman Dick Smith to allow two more runs to score and close the deficit to 5-3 Braves.

In the bottom of the sixth, with Phil Regan on the mound, Joe Morgan lead off with a single. One wild pitch by Regan later, and Morgan was at second. Morgan went to third on a Manny Mota grounder and then home on a Dick Smith sacrifice fly to make the score 6-3.

Lindy McDaniel would come in to relieve for the Braves in the eighth. With Shane MacJames on the mound for the Stars, MacJames gave up two hits in the eighth, including a double to Dick Green which scored another Braves run.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two out, Doug Clemens eaked out a single against McDaniel, but Danny Kravitz would end the Stars season with a pop-up that Braves first baseman Dick Smith caught in foul territory, giving the Braves their fifth National League pennant.

Manny Mota went 3 for 5 for the Braves, and Tommy Davis went 3 for 4.

    Re: Even the Braves

Seals Go Cold In New York, Lose 3-1
ALCS Tied 2-2; Seals Held to Six Hits by Proctor, McMahon

NEW YORK -- Batters all across the American League know that a key to the Yankees' success is four-time Cy Young Award winner Jim Proctor. Proctor proved himself yet again by holding the visiting Seals to just six hits as the Yankees beat the Seals 3-1 in Game 4 of the ALCS, tying the series two games to two. The Yankees and Seals play the deciding game tomorrow.

The Seals scored their single run in the top of the first, and the run was an unearned run, as second batter Ray Barker reached first on an fielding error by Proctor. Davin Brown and Gene Oliver would hit singles and the Seals would take a quick 1-0 lead.

The Yankees had left five batters on base until the bottom of the third, when Stuart Petty doubled with men on first and second in the bottom of the third. Harvey Killebrew raced all the way from first to home on the double, beating the throw to home and putting the home Yankees up two to one. It would be all the runs the Yankees needed.

Ray Barker hit the only extra-base hit for the Seals -- a double in the second inning. But after the third inning, not a single member of the Seals reached second base. Proctor did not walk a single batter and struck out two Seals in eight innings pitched.

Fergie Jenkins of the Seals gave up two singles and a walk in the bottom of the fifth, including an RBI single by Stuart Petty to make it 3-1 Yankees. Jim Proctor and Don McMahon kept the Seals off base, and "sealed" the Yankees victory, with McMahon getting ex-Yankee Gene Oliver out on strikes to end the game.

    Re: Even the Braves

New York Makes Dramatic Comeback to Take Ninth Straight AL Pennant
Three Runs in Eighth Give Yankees 4-3 Win Over Seals; Braves-Yanks in Series

NEW YORK -- After the first two games, it looked as if the Yanks amazing streak of Pennants stretching back to 1959 would be broken by the upstart Seals, but the Yanks won their third straight game against the Seals 4-3 to clinch the American League pennant for the ninth straight year. The Yankees will face the Boston Braves in the 1967 World Series in a rematch of the 1960 Series which the Yankees won in five games.

Wayne Genser of the Yankees was dominating, challenging the Seals with fastballs and striking out ten Seals batters in seven innings. Genser would strike out Foster Castleman and Davin Brown to end the first inning, and the Yankees would score two singles and a walk off Seals pitcher Dick Ellsworth, including an RBI single by Joe Torre to put the score at 1-0 Yankees.

However, the Seals took advantage of a Genser wild pitch in the top of the second, which moved Gene Oliver to second and allowed Rocky Colavito to single to center and score Oliver from second for the first Yankees run. The game would remain tied 1-1 until Jimmie Hall of the Seals homered off Genser in the top of the fifth to add an extra Seals run.

Despite Genser's pitching prowess, Genser gave up a walk and two singles in the top of the sixth, including a Gene Oliver RBI single that put the Seals up 3-1. Jim Brady would come in for the Yankees in the eighth, but the game remained 3-1 Seals going into the bottom of the eighth.

Dick Ellsworth was still on the mound. He struck out Len Boehmer to lead the bottom of the eight, but gave up a pair of singles to Jay Ward and Don Wert. Roberto Clemente would fly out to center, bringing up Joe Torre, who doubled into center field and brought both runners home, tying the game at 3-3 with a Yankees runner at second.

Manager Leo Durocher brought Jack Aker in to pitch for the Seals, but Aker gave up a single to Harmon Killebrew in the right field gap. Torre raced home from second, beating the throw standing up and the score was now 4-3 Yankees.

Don McMahon came into the pitch for the Yankees in the top of the ninth. Gene Oliver led off with a walk, but Rocky Colavito hit into a double play. McMahon faced Jimmie Hall, who had hit a solo home run earlier in the game -- but Hall went down swinging, and the Yankees, in dramatic fashion, had secured their ninth straight American League Pennant.
