    Solving a BB2K6 Sales Mystery

    All,

On Sunday June 12 we sold more Baseball Mogul's (including downloads) that we had since April.

This is weird. I saw our sales go up a bit on May 19th for a few days, when the PC Gamer review hit mailboxes.

But I can't explain June 12. Normally sales are low on Sundays because no one's at their computer. And now, on the 13th, we are back to normal.

So, does anyone know the answer to the mystery? Did someone mention us on TV or a radio show? Or maybe it's just sunspots...

    I have 2 guesses.

    1. People just got a chance to sit down and read their magazine
    And the much more likely;
    2. People realized Fathers day is next Sunday and now less than a week away.

For something equally baffling, take a look at "Currently Active Users" section of the forum. Look at how many people were online June 10th at 4:03 AM EST.

503 blows away the mark we set back in August of 80 something. Where did all those people come from, and why were they all online so **** early?

i guess you could consider it late as well...remeber its only 1:30 pacific which isnt that late. Anyways, i thinks its pretty cool that a load of people were on at one time.
Even in the tough NL East, the Braves will win their 15th straight division title...and everybody knows it!!!

I think this is just a bug of updating the new forums. The old record, if i recall was 93 and it was when BBM2k6 was coming out.

First time I read that, I thought he said "i finally caved, and bought my 8th copy"

That would have solved some of this question

A unique thing I learned (from experience on three separate occasions) with magazines: there are two, maybe three waves of response.

The first wave hits within the first week or so after an article is published. It's usually by far the largest wave, and comes a few days after the magazine starts to hit the aether - people are getting it in the mail and reading it, then responding.

The second wave hits about a week later, as word-of-mouth carries from one person to another, and the article (or mention) is passed around among friends. This usually happens within the first 7-10 days of the article's publication.

The third wave comes about 2-4 weeks after publication. I call it the "airplane" wave, because that's where it originates: people leave magazines in the stow areas in front of their airplane seats. Another passenger picks up the mag and reads it on the plane, and word spreads. This wave is maybe 5-10% as big as the first.

Alternately the third wave can come from doctor's offices and the like - people ditch the old mags in their office, only for the article to be read by someone else, and so on...

I didn't get my PCGAMER until Saturday, so maybe others didn't get it until Saturday as well. Some people may have not read the review until Sunday.

When you say May 19th, was that the day you posted the PCGAMER review on the main SportsMogul web site?

Why does everybody stand up and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" when they're already there?

    Lets Go Oakland!!!!

May 19th was the first day we heard about the review from a subscriber. And the next week we saw it on store shelves.

I didn't get my PC Gamer until around June 1 -- but I thought the delay was because I had just finally gotten around to updating my address.
