The other option is something like the Total Sports Encyclopedia which was out a few years ago (I have a copy...), which includes +/- and i believe shots on goal, but is a hard copy. Even hockeydb has +/- if you go to the team pages http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/csl.php?tid=50Originally Posted by Clay Dreslough
But when it comes right down to it, those ARE the only tangible stats that have been tracked for hockey for any length of time.
In baseball you have things like doubles, triples, at bats, etc... And they have *real* meaning, in Hockey it really comes down to the big 4.
A few years ago, there was a great management sim called World Hockey Manager that basically had 4 abilities for every player: scoring, Passing, Defense and Aggression, which were ofcourse based on the big four stats (G, A, PIM, +/-). The game was fast to sim, and statistically WAY more accurate than EHM (where a playmaker like Peter Forsberg regularly scores 40-50 goals despite NEVER scoring more than 30 in his career in a full season...)
Hockey Mogul, atleast to start, would need only get those 4 ratings down, before beginning to worry about things like Time on ice, faceoff %, etc... In any event, if I find a better DB, I'll post it here, but for hockey I seriously doubt any of those other stats have been kept for more than the last 10 years or so...

Also has Basketball. No idea about these guy's, and the software to view the data is a bit buggy...
Not that this will help much, but there was a rating driven hockey simulator called Hockey League Simulator that I play in the very late 80s/early 90s (and they made a graphical hockey game called Wayne Gretzky Hockey II, both by Bethesda, that could import games from the sim). It had ratings like checking, puck control, shot power, shot accuracy, speed, passing, endurance, injury, penalty, and maybe toughness and some others. It's very old now, but seemed pretty solid and maybe a nice reference point for a mogul sim.
I realize it doesn't help with what the ratings of current players should be, but does give an idea of what ratings could be used.
Just my 2 cents, I'm not a big hockey fan, but I enjoyed that sim.
Thanks for pointing out the team pages. Having +/- and also the positions is a big improvement IMHO over the other pages.Originally Posted by dolfanar

I know hockey isnt that popular in the US but id definatly try a hockey game. I do really like the idea i heard here of an airline game.
How about making it so u can get players from around the world like latin america and japan??? Id like that better.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned before.
A college football sim would be very cool.
what about a college baseball game? you already have a base engine from baseball mogul so yeah.
my personal preference would be a career mode baseball game, sortof like itp baseball by ottp....but much better, cuz clay would make it.Start from high school and go all the way until you get to become a manager...and incorporate baseball mogul leagues into it. thatd be awesome.

I would like to see a soccer (football) sim game using the same general ideas and concepts as BBM. I can see some obvious problems: (1) the competition is very strong (Football Manager); (2) soccer by its nature isn't as stat intensive as baseball; and (3) the fan base is probably more knowledgeable about the sport/players than Sports Mogul. The soccer sim games primarily use subjective ratings (along with the few obvious statistics that apply) to track and evaluate player performance, so I'm not sure how well BBM would translate. However, the player career models, scouting, management, training, finances, etc, would seem to translate quite well. Finding good stats for most leagues is difficult (unless you have some knowledge of the local language) and giving the subjective ratings is an art more than a science (e.g., Football Manager seems to have employed people in many countries just to help gather data and assign player ratings). It would be really cool if it was possible to do someday.
I voted for Completely overhaul Baseball Mogul (new graphics, engine, etc.)
best solution in my opinion would be to combine BBMO with BBM. Make the online service a value added addition to normal baseball mogul, and switch the interface to be more HTML technology oriented, you know?
I used to be a big fan of windows programming "to the bare metal", using straight C/C++ and windows API calls. In the last couple of years though, .net has really won me over. ...not that I have much time for real projects reacently, but you know.

I love BBM6, and i would vote AGAINST an overall of BBM.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
You would turn off a lot of the old faithful BBM fans, {including myself} by doing a major overhaul.
I would love some sort of non-sports sim game, i like the newspaper and airline ideas mentioned by previous people. A game as a sales manager would be fun to, running a staff, hiring new sales people, dealing with constructing a compensation program, etc.
Basketball mogul would be fun. If you did do that, hiring of the coaching staff should be a bigger part of the game because there are so few players to deal with. You should also include the developmental league to.
How bout a college basketball game with recruiting and hiring assistants, Dealing with school administration etc.
As for a soccer sim, there is an amazingly wonderful soccer sim i played back in college called something like Soccer Manager.
Let's Go Bucs
I pick overhaul but i'd really like to see a college baseball game.
Plus with doing a college baseball game you already have an engine built so you just need to tweak it and add some features that are college orinatied and take out the pro stuff(like FA, Trades, etc.)
A college basketball game would be cool.
So would College football but that would probably require a overhaul of the FBM engine and some changes as well.
who the **** is bumping all of these old threads?
