Apparently the Red Sox offered $40.5 million over 3 years, but Pedro took $50 million over 4 years from the Mets.
I'm the HUGEST Pedro fan in the world (just look at my avatar). But with all of Pedro's injuries, it seems to me that even $40.5 over 3 years is too high a price to pay.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe he projects as better than Pavano or Vazquez or Mussina over the next 3 years because ... well ... because he's Pedro and he digs deep and finds a way (see, for example, Game 5 of the 1999 ALDS against Cleveland).
But sometimes he digs deep and find the WRONG way (see, for example, game 7 of the 2003 ALCS against the Yankees).
I will miss him, but I think the Red Sox are a better team without having Pedro signed for 4 more years.
Clay
