    Is it just me....

or are the real life Yankees really starting to resemble the game's version. They're likely to sign Wright, Pavano, Milton, bring back El Duke and trade for Johnson. Let's see, that makes the rotation

    Johnson (in place of Vazquez)
    Mussina
    Pavano
    Milton
    Wright/Brown/Hernandez

that's like 100 million in pitchers alone. This is really getting out of hand...

That's not true. First of all, they say Wright probably won't pass his physical. If they sign Pavano or trade for Johnson, they won't get the other, and if they do re-sign El Duque he'll have about 10 starts then hurt himself for the rest of the year so it doesn't matter.

getting Johnson is almost done if you look at it, that's 18 mil, Brown is at what, 18 as well, 10+ for the other three guys, hmm...

Seriously, this is just getting out of hand. I liked the late 90s Yankees better, spending and developing their own talent, more synergy.

Soon, they're gonna end up like the NY Rangers, all glam no glory.

The Yankees PULLED OUT of trade talks for Johnson. They're trying to trade Brown to the Braves, and if they do get Johnson they'd be trading Vazquez.

I agree with you, though. I very much prefer the Yankees of the late 90s to the current Yankees. It has turned into rediculous. The difference is that in the late 90s it was Brian Cashman making all the moves, and now it's Steinbrenner. I like Cashman, but if Steinbrenner can't trust his General Manager to make the moves, he needs to find somebody else. I don't think they'll turn into the Rangers though. The Yankees will at least make the playoffs!

Am I actually having a convo with Yankee fans?

I understand they are trying to unload Brown, and will pay most of his contract to do so.

Vazquez surprises me. Mogul was picking him to be one of the best pitchers of 2004.

Almost by definition, pitchers the Yankees get will have a down year, because if you have the most money to spend you will buy the pitchers that JUST has the best years -- and everyone tends to regress to the mean.

So, it's unlikely Wright will pitch like he did in 2004, and it's HIGHLY unlikely Johnson will ever have a year again like 2004 (he should have won another Cy Young, IMHO). But they'll still have a pretty good pitching staff it seems.
