Question Reduction in Ratings after Draft

I was looking for help with settings when starting game. I am unsure which way reversion to mean should be set. Also after drafts I notice except for QB's the players ratings drop off a good bit. More for the backup's. The TE's especially have a significant drop in ratings, where I have to draft a new one most years unless Its a older TE with a very high score already. Any explanations or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Going from 1979 to 1980 I have seen defensive backs go from high 90s or 100 in 1979 and be low to mid 60s the next year. I didn't think ratings were supposed to change that much from the end of one tyear to the beginning of the next??? That's very odd.

Re: Reduction in Ratings after Draft

The issue of loss of Overall and Peak value after end-of-year renewal of contracts and the start of the following season's games, has been brought to the attention of the developer. And also, the significant loss of Peak value of many newly drafted players.

These losses appear to be an unintended consequence of the normalization process. The game's average player rating is 70. Normalization is run when the average exceeds 70. There are multiple issues with how normalization is done. It is uneven - some player lose a lot, some none. And players never reach their peak values. There is also a tendency, after several years of play, for nearly all veteran players to cluster around 70.

WRT REVERSION. There is a tendency for players to have a great season and then revert to their normal level of play (especially noticeable in baseball). Reversion reduces a players ability (permanently) to ensure that he reverts to his average. Unfortunately, this does not reflect reality. Players can have multiple years performing above average. Reducing the player's ability is more likely to ensure that his next season will be below his norm. And, finally, the game itself provides reversion to the mean intrinsically since it is a statistical simulation.

This was brought up to the developer and he put in the option to set the amount of reversion so that it is the player's choice to use it or not. I believe you will get the best simulation of your players "normal" season when you set the reversion to -100 (i.e. turn it off).
