The 7-3 San Diego Chargers are coming off a close loss to the Oakland Raiders last Sunday afternoon in Alameda County. The offense struggled between the 20’s all game long and and had a difficult time establishing their running game. Oakland held the Bolts power combination of Montgomery and McPherson to 116 yards. “When an offense becomes one dimensional, it becomes easier for the opponent to defend its position,” claimed coach Coryell at Thursday afternoon’s press conference. “This week we get the Bulls and we have had success again them in the past. We just need to play better football this weekend.” San Diego enters the contest with the 3rd best offense in the NAFL and the 20th ranked defense.

The Jacksonville Bulls (7-3) are arriving in San Diego after an impressive victory over the Los Angeles Express 27-10. Backup signal caller Pete Besthard, playing for an injured Robert Griese, threw for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns to get his fifteenth career victory in the NAFL. “He stepped up to the challenge and played a fantastic ball game,” commented Head Coach Monte Clark when asked about his backup Quarterback. Clark also noted that, “….. Griese will return this weekend in San Diego and Pete will be prepared if called upon again . Both are outstanding athletes.” When asked about the health of his starting quarterback, Clark mentioned, “The medical staff assures me he will be ready this week when we travel to San Diego.” The Bulls will also rely on running back Larry Crowe to continue his breakout season in NAFL.
