Several years ago (probably sometime 2005-2012), Clay posted a blog or sent out a brilliant email about an epiphany he had concerning pitcher attributes and how they affect the outcomes of plate appearances.
The gist of it was that pitchers don’t have a physical “strikeout ability” or “prevent hits” ability. They only have their pitch repertoire, the command, velocity, movement and deceptiveness of delivery of those pitches, and the ability to sequence those pitches.
That’s the way pitchers get people out, period.
I recently tried unsuccessfully to find that blog/email/post.
If Clay or anyone else could send me a link or tell me where to find it, I’d appreciate it.
Thanks!
