    Solitaire 8-Team League

I can see from my solitaire games that MotG has a ton of strategy built into it and it will be great when I can organize a draft tournament. Nonetheless, I am enjoying playing my eight teams in a solitaire league. In my latest game (attached) San Fran knocked off Carolina 31-6 in a game that was closer than the score would indicate. There were several key plays including a "4-3 Stack" run defense by the 49ers that took away what looked like a sure TD run by Cam Newton. The score at that time was just 17-6 San Fran and a Carolina TD then could have been a game changer.

    My standings after four games:

    SF 1-0 - beat Car 31-6
    Den 1-0 - beat Bal 31-0
    NE 1-0 - beat Ind 22-20
    Phi 1-0 - beat Sea 37-13
    Sea 0-1
    Car 0-1
    Ind 0-1
    Bal 0-1

I tried the stat keeping methodology posted on the bulletin board for the Baltimore-Denver game that the Broncos won 31-0. The stat sheet is attached.

The stats are quite believable (even though Flacco had a terrible game) and the methodology for generating stats is sound I think.

I may forego taking the time to do the stat sheet for other games since it does take 15 minutes or so to tabulate. Nice feature though for those who like stats.

Broncos Improve to 2-0. Colts Now 0-2.

In a competitive game, Denver knocks off Indianapolis 27-14. See attached score sheet.

Even in solitaire mode this game is interesting and enjoyable.

    MotG Staff

I really like this game! It has a real football feel to it and player ratings seem to be right on target...maybe with the exception of Miami's Ryan Tannehill ($15M).

I plan on playing out my 8-team solitaire league with each team playing each other once. I have not broken any published game rules and my random selection of three defensive players after the offense selects a play retains objectivity as far as I can tell.

The only surprises so far are the Eagles and Seahawks but every individual game has been believable and fun to play. I have to say that the Eagle-Seahawk game was surprising but not unbelievable. Time after time, big-time players have been coming through making big time plays.

After eleven games, teams have been averaging 19.2 points per game. I think that is realistic given the defenses of the teams involved and the fact that I have had the home team just run out the clock and not attempt to score in the ninth round if the home team leads and the game outcome has been decided.

One thing I would like you to consider as a "Hail Mary" option is to allow a trailing team to convert one of their field goal playbook cards to a touchdown card if they trail by 4 or more in the last round and they hold no touchdown cards. Such a conversion would be penalized an appropriate number of rating points (perhaps -5?). One example of why that that might be needed was my most recent game when Seattle trailed San Fran 14-10 on their last scoring turn and Seattle held four field goal playbook cards. It made no sense for Seattle to attempt a field goal in that situation and yet that was their only option.

Regardless...you have a great game that football fanatics as well as casual fans will enjoy.

I'm also running a 8 team solitaire league(mine consists of all the division leaders )and am going for a 16 game season. The only stats I'm keeping for now are the TD's and FG's scored-interested in how that will play out for the season. Like your idea of running out the clock if home team is ahead-didn't think of that one.

    Re: Solitaire 8-Team League

    Philadelphia 48 New England 24.

The Eagles are one game away from a perfect 7-0 season. Head-to-head results are the first tie breaking rule so the Eagles will clinch the title with a win against Denver or a Bronco loss vs. San Francisco. The Broncos will win the league if they beat both San Fran and Philly. Every other team (including the 49ers) is eliminated.

    Updated standings are below.

    STANDINGS
    Philadelphia 6-0
    Denver 4-1
    San Francisco 4-1
    New England 4-2
    Carolina 1-4
    Indianapolis 1-4
    Seattle 1-4
    Baltimore 0-5

    Re: Solitaire 8-Team League

    Baltimore 24 Seattle 17

I'll update standings after the next game. Despite the disappointing loss by the Seahawks (which drops them to 1-5 on the season), this game involved a big-time play by CB Richard Sherman in Round 9. See the attached score sheet.

With Baltimore leading 24-10, the Ravens were playing their last offensive attempt. With the cards available to them the Ravens called the only play to avoid a punt. That play was a Red Zone TD attempt using WR Marlon Brown's Receiving rating of 67 plus a bonus of 8. Pretty nice play for the Ravens to try and bolster the final score, or so I thought. "Out of no where" Seattle played CB Richard Sherman (Coverage rating of 87) and the Seahawks' "Pick Six" Audible card and just like that, Seattle trailed 24-17 with still one offense round for the Seahawks. (In hindsight, the smart play for Baltimore would have been to punt.) Unfortunately for Seattle, the Ravens LB Daryl Smith made a saving tackle in Seattle's 9th round to preserve Baltimore's upset win.

I am disappointed by the Seahawks' losing record but this is still an exciting, thought-provoking football game.
