AOW, when you gonna stop lumping Josh Johnson in with Tim Lincecum?
AOW, when you gonna stop lumping Josh Johnson in with Tim Lincecum?
If discussing the first 6 weeks of the season, I'll probably continue to do it for eternity. If discussing anything beyond that, probably over.
I actually started JJ yesterday, against the Sox, after seeing the Sox destroyed by the likes of the Nats for a weekend. Glad I did. Of course I feel like an idiot for trading or dropping or whatever I did with JJ in the other league. Oh well - I picked him up off waivers in this one, so my JJ karma is balanced.
wow...are you the same guy that didn't want to start a true ace against the yankees but no started JJ against the Sox????? Given JJ's inconcistency this year, and the Sox having a top 3 offense I sat JJ. Despite the good game i'm fine missing it as it was the right move. I'm kind of shocked you went from not wanting to start a top ace (forget who it was) against a worst hitting team than the Sox and then start JJ against the sox. Are you using a magic 8-ball to make these choices lol?
hahaha no, just common sense - JJ put it together, his velocity is back. Unlike Lincecum he has returned to form...he's a dominant pitcher in his home park that the Sox haven't faced in 3 years. That's a winning combo.
then you add in the offense of the Marlins now (HanRam, Reyes, Stanton, etc), the Sox hitting without a DH, and the Sox' terrible OF, and losing one of middlebrooks/youk/ortiz/agonz without a DH. After seeing them flail so badly against Gio Gonzales and Jordan Zimmermann, I went ballsy and played JJ.
What was the worst that could happen, Podsednik gets on base 4 times? AGonz is in a funk, Salty is striking out for like 14 consecutive at-bats...there just isn't a lot to fear in the Sox lineup right now.
well, you went balsy said enough. The Sox did struggle against the Nats but they have the 3rd most productive offense in baseball. If you don't fear them with an inconsistent arm like JJ i don't know how you can fear any offense in baseball with a true ace.
good move, my breaches are burning a bit over not starting him, or jimmies are rustled, or whatever the forums favorite saying is of late.
Yep, compare the velocity charts of Johnson and Lincecum. Lincecum has been bouncing around all year while Johnson has been trending upward, which is totally understandable given he was returning from injury. He's been very good AND consistent over the last month and a half. Plus, as I said last time this topic came up, he's been posting solid peripheral numbers all year, whereas Lincecum's control has been abysmal.
In other words, concern about Johnson was always an overreaction to ERA in a small sample, while concern about Lincecum has been legitimate for a while now due to decreased velocity and control.
don't get me wrong, i like Johnson and traded for him. Unfortuantely I traded Mike Trout who I dont' think anyone really expected him to perform as well as he has this early in his career...but anyway, despite my like for JJ I didn't think he was a safe start against Boston.
got offered lincecum for dickey
you people
I think its fair in a dynasty league. You said you are playing for next year. What do you think you are going to get for a 37 year old knuckle ball pitcher in a dynasty league? It's a little bit of gamble but if Lincecum returns to even 80% of his former self you make out like a bandit. You might not like it but it is fair. Anyway your counter was even funnier. Jason Hammels and Dickey for half my team!
Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.
Abraham Lincoln
i just traded Cueto and Middlebrooks for Cuddyer. How bad do you think I got taken?
you think it was bad for me? cueto IMO is not as good as his numbers. thought i was trading high for some needed offense. Brooks is good, strikes out alot and playing time is going to be an issue the way through. Cuddyer is a middle of the order hitter on one of the leagues best offenses. He should hit better in COL than he did in MIN. He's getting hot and is eligible at multiple positions.
I thought brooks is the wildcard. if youk gets traded, which is very possible but far from probable, and he can continue to hit how he has....even with his K's i'll likely end up on the short end of this deal.
