Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.

Too late to say they should devote all funds to the invention of a time machine to go back and prevent the injury?
yeah, but both are sticking to their "business is business" guns, and they should. anyone can be friends until there's 25+ mil at stake.
this could easily be fixed if Manning would rip up that absurd contract and sign one more indicative of what he's expected to do next year, not for what he's done in the past. But why should he? They signed and agreed to pay him that money, and he doesn't want to restructure to play with a team that is going to draft Luck rather than someone who can help him now. Irsay simply can't give him that money and have both those contracts on the books. It can't be done. If Manning isn't going to budge to help Irsay out here than Irsay has to do what he has to do.
The colts are going to have to release him prior to that 25 mil kickin in. No chance at that point of resigning with the Colts...so he'll be able to choose where he wants to go rather than play on a bad team with the future of the franchise biting at his heels to move out of the way. Other teams know they'll have to release him, so there's not a chance in he!! someone will trade for him and have to agree to pay that contract. They'll try to get him cheaper in FA.
This is quite the conundrum for Indy now. Peyton cleared by Docs. The Colts can either let him hit the market, or sign/trade him and take a 37 Million Cap Hit. Or they could re-sign him and take some club to the cleaners with that #1 pick.
