I don't see how he's a "breath of fresh air." He's not the first fairly personable (if a little goody-two-shoes for my taste) Christian to play professional sports, and he certainly won't be the last.
So you don't root for players even if they are good people?

Not necessarily. I'm sure there's plenty of good people on the Yankees, Jets, Ohio State, etc. Why would I root for them when they play for teams that I despise?

I don't know I just find it odd when you are in that line of work in Sports media how you can still hate teams. Hell, I hated Denver practically all my life because Elway always owned the Pats. Tebow changed how I feel about the team. As I got older, I even like Yankee players like Mariano Rivera.

Heck Denver isn't even a large market, you can probably argue that they are the smallest market with 4 major pro sports teams. I don't quite understand Denver, but understand hating the large media/teams like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles.

Tim Tebow's a real swell guy in the Denver community. It's REALLY hard not to like him, I've found.

Kobie prolly hates Denver cause we roll on them Buffalo bitches on the daily.

haha, yep I had to deal with losses to Denver like that all through the 90's. Even with Elway retired when Bledsoe played, was thinking, "we got this," but nope Drew Bledsoe's Pats always would lose. I don't think in the Bledsoe era we got 1 win against Denver.

Everybody rolls on them Buffalo bitches on the daily.

I loved Elway. The Broncos just got really unlikeable in the last 10 years, toward the end of the Shanahan era.

Also, I never said I dislike Tim Tebow. I, however, am not obligated to root for him because he's a nice guy.

rage, one thing I don't get is why you think just because we're in the media (I say we because you asked me and Kobie the same question) we can't have opinions on likeability of players/teams.

I can't stand LeBron. Never liked him really and the Miami thing really put his ass on the turf for me. So I root against him. Now, if I ever get lucky enough to cover a LeBron even am I going to diss the dude? No, that's unprofessional. But being unprofessional and allowing your opinions to enter your journalistic pieces is what makes a good journalist a shitty one. I don't think Kobie's a shitty journalist so I highly doubt he lets his personal bias get in the way.

You're supposed to be fair and balanced but that doesn't mean you don't have opinions. Media members tend to be liberal. That doesn't mean there is a blatant liberal bias in the majority of journalistic pieces (regardless of what the conspiracy theorists tell you). We have opinions, we are allowed to have opinions. Does Kobie bash Tebow/the Broncos on the daily in a paper? Doubtful.

That is correct, I do not.

Yeah, I'm not sure where the idea comes from that journalists aren't allowed to have opinions.

Well I am not in the media, but if I were in it, I would take the job seriously and get over childish grudges over players that are covered or not covered. If I wanted a decent reputation and not be considered a homer anyway. So that is kind of why I don't understand those that are in it whether skilled or not can seem to hate a quality human being or not even root for him.

You can have opinions, but sometimes as a member of the media, those opinions are absurd.

Are you talking ****? I take the job seriously, Kobie very clearly takes the job seriously, but that doesn't mean we have to become inhuman robots that can no longer have rooting interests. A Colorado radio host put it perfectly this week

"I have rooting interests, I cheer for teams, I cheer against teams. But that's my business. I'm not going to bring that on air, because I don't think people should care who I cheer for and who I cheer against."

Who I cheer for only effects me. I don't let it effect the way I work within the media. I don't aim to one day bring down LeBron James. In fact, I love that LBJ is a great player so that I can cheer against him and he still kicks ass. It's no fun cheering against a shitty player.

But it shouldn't matter to you who we root for or root against because those are our opinions. We don't let it effect our work, so therefore why should it matter? Kobie's not banning Tebow related stories from his newspaper so that he doesn't get covered. He's not letting his "childish" opinion get in the way of his work so, to me, it doesn't ****ing matter. He's a human, he's got opinions. Some people got opinions. Some people let it effect their work (those that voted against Alomar in the Hall) some people don't. But if it doesn't effect the work, then it shouldn't matter.

Exactly. It's why I'm indifferent about Teblow

    I didn't think I was.

Believe me I don't care who people cheer for. I just find it odd unless you're some bitter atheist how one would not even root for or like Tebow.

Who I cheer for only effects me. I don't let it effect the way I work within the media. I don't aim to one day bring down LeBron James. In fact, I love that LBJ is a great player so that I can cheer against him and he still kicks ass. It's no fun cheering against a shitty player.
Kinda nailed it about Tebow. Which is why it's hard for me to understand.

Well for Tebow it does kind of seem weird. Lebron I understand and stuff and we've been down that road.
