Okay, let me clarify - they are both fielding payrolls over $160mil, they both play in the AL East, they are both large markets with good front offices, with a good combination of internal talent development and FA/Trade acquisitions. On a surface level today, they are similar (despite a $40mil difference, difference in the standings, injuries, etc).
Those that are using this, current state, to pretend the Red Sox have been the same constant winners, indominatable force, with an expectation of victory every october, with jagoff better-than-you fans, that can outbid and outspend anyone - that's showing a lack of perspective.
To long-time redsox fans, it's a long term life of woe and suffering with occasionally hitting the lottery. We're had a few years of good management and good runs, and we're tremendously appreciative and thankful - and if the Sox don't make the playoffs this year, that's ok. It's not this winning expectation, it's not this ass-hole behavior, it's not a constant better-than-you bashing.
That's why this whole anti-Sox feel that has arisen the past couple years is baffling and irritating. I liked this team before they were in any way a winner, and now this backlash from the first time in 80 years we've been relevant is just disgusting.
I hate Boston in general because of this odd belief that THEY are the only town that has ever suffered ever in sports. Every time I meet a Red Sox fan "Ohmigawd you had to have been there in 2003, I was gahna kill Grady Little."
Like, everyone has suffered in sports. EVERYONE. I dislike Boston sports fans for taking their suffering and making it a marketable commodity. Everyone who is a fan has suffered through, Cleveland hasn't won a major sport title since 1948. But everyone in New England acts like they invented it. It's annoying, it's obnoxious. Especially when the Red Sox have a 160 million on the payroll and the Patriots have one of the best QBs to ever play the game.
Doesn't every fan base think their ******* fans don't exist? If anyone is lacking perspective I'd wager it's someone who is currently a Red Sox fan.
