White Sox lose to Angels in extras

Anaheim - Derek Holland (2-1 4.33) pitched 7 innings in his White Sox (23-13) debut allowing 4 runs, 2 earned and getting a no decision as the Sox lost in extra innings for the second straight game.

#5 hitter Andre Ethier hit his first home run with the White Sox and Adam Dunn added his 14th of the season as the Sox erased and early 4-1 deficit to pull even at 4-4 before Chris Sale (3-1 1.02) gave up a walk-off HR to Kendrys Morales in the 10th.

    Sox skid hits 3

Kendrys Morales watches a home run, his 7th of the season

Anaheim - The White Sox (23-14) lost for their third consecutive game as Kendrys Morales powered the Angels for the 2nd time in as many nights. Losing their second straight game to the Angels by a score of 5-4.

Angel starter Joel Piniero (1-5 5.64) picked up his first win of the season going 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 11 base runners. Even though the Sox could get men on base, they had no extra base hits of which to speak.

Catcher A.J. Pierzynski was 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI raising his season average to .307 in the loss.

Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.

Sox road woes continue, Angels sweep; Twins take first in AL Central

Anaheim - The White Sox (23-15) were swept for the second time this season. Jered Weaver (5-2 4.39) pitched 7 innings of 1 run baseball for the Angels. Fernando Rodney naile down the save with a scoreless 9th as they won 3-1.

Even though Mark Buehrle (5-2 3.63) pitched 7 innings of 3 run ball, good enough for a quality start, he was the hard luck loser.

DH Adam Dunn went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts watching his batting average dip under .250 for the first time this season. He is currently sitting at .246.

The White Sox now close out their 9 game road trip with 3 games at Oakland, where they are historically bad. The Sox are in the midst of their longest losing streak of the season and the Minnesota Twins have capitalized. While the Sox have lost 4 straight, the Twins have won 3 straight and have retaken the AL Central lead by .5 games.

Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.

Danks chased early; Sox lose 5th in a row

John Danks was confused by the A's hitters, lasting only 4.1IP

Oakland - The Colossieum's 20,374 fans watched the 26 year old lefty Josh Outman (1-1 2.67) pick up his 1st victory on the season. He went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 run. For the 5th straight game, the White Sox (23-16) tasted defeat.

"It's becoming disheartening, we hate every trip out west every year. I think it's mental at this point, they're no better than us," quipped Ozzie Guillen. "We need to right the ship, and do it soon. Losing is contagious like a cough, or disease."

Josh Willingham hit his 7th HR of the season for the A's, as they cruised to victory, never trailing. Lastings Milledge, starting in place of Juan Pierre, had 3 hits on the day, bringing his season average to .314. He was the lone bright spot for the Sox.

Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.

Dunn powers White Sox out of slump

Adam Dunn's 1st inning HR was his 15th in a Sox uniform

Oakland - For the White Sox (24-16), the saying could be, 'As goes Dunn, so goes the Sox'. The big left-handed slugger was 1-3 with 2 walks, a homer (15), 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. The Sox beat the A's 7-3.

The Sox chased Trevor Cahill (1-5 5.79) before the young pitcher even recorded an out. Pouring on 5 runs in the 1st inning without recording an out, Cahill allowed 6 straight batters to reach base.

Gavin Floyd (5-1 2.76) righted the ship for the Sox pitching a string 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run on 7 hits. Juan Pierre added 3 hits, 2 runs and a stolen base increasing his season average to .343.

Rookie 3B Brent Morel's batting average dipped under .300 for the first time this season, going 0-3 with 2 strikeouts. He is currently batting .299

Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.

Sox finish west coast swing 3-6; Lose to A's in 10

Oakland - For the 3rd time of this West Coast trip, the Sox (24-17) played more baseball than required. For the 3rd time they lost. Chris Sale (3-2 1.31) is the hard luck loser after pitching 2 perfect innings in relief of Derek Holland (2-1 4.25). In the 10th, he got Mark Ellis to fly out to center before allowing Coco Crisp to single. The Sox then brought in Matt Thornton (0-2 3.38) and after Crisp stole second, Cliff Pennington drove him home with a single down the first baseline.

This resulted in a 4-3 win for the A's (16-25) and continued dominance over the White Sox in their home park dating back for the past few seasons. C A.J. Pierzynski hit his 2nd HR of the season for the Sox as they now turn their attention to 7 home games in 7 days.

First up for the Sox is AL Champion Texas Rangers (23-18) who are on a 3 game winning streak. The Sox get them for two games before the Indians (14-26) come to town for a 2 game set of their and finally the Dodgers (19-23) stop by for a 3 game weekend set.

The White Sox are 2nd place in the AL Central, sitting 2 games behind the Minnesota Twins (26-14).

Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.

    Late inning losses becoming trendy

Chicago - Thought to be safe and secure from their recent woes, the White Sox (24-18) started their 7 game home stand today against the Texas Rangers (24-18). Adrian Beltre, however, had different plans. With the score tied at 2, the 3B, in his first season with Texas, blasted a solo home run off Jesse Crain (2-2 4.19) for what proved to be the deciding run.

Rangers closer Neftali Feliz (9sv 4.41) struck out the side in the bottom of the 9th to secure the win for the Rangers, who pulled even with the White Sox in the wild card standings.

Dave Bush (2-2 5.49) pitched well for 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, but it wasn't enough for the Sox, whose offense is proving to be aenemic.

The Sox 3-4-5 hitters combined to go 1-9 with 2 walks and no runs or RBI. Highlighting the troubles the offense has had lately are these facts.

Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.

Sox split with Rangers; Just 1 back of Twins

Ramon Castro is congratulated after his 6th inning 3 run HR

Chicago - Mark Buehrle (6-2 3.34) pitched for 8 innings, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned against the Rangers (24-19). The Sox (25-18) handed Ranger pitcher C.J. Wilson (4-1 3.97) his first loss of the season, roughing him up for 6 runs over 5 and 2/3 innings.

Adam Dunn hit his 16th HR of the season, and backup catcher Ramon Castro added his 1st with a 3 run shot in the 6th off Wilson.

The Sox now welcome the Indians (15-27) as they send John Danks (5-3 3.09) for his 10th start against Josh Tomlin (0-4 5.25)
