    Split ratings for pitchers

I think it's overdue. We have them for hitters, we should have them for pitchers. Sick of seeing guys like Randy Choate and Dennys Reyes and Pedro Feliciano owning righties and getting crushed by lefties.

    I really like this idea.

From my experience, lefty pitchers in this game, especially starters, are either gods or garbage.

Shouldn't splits depend mostly on the pitch type? 12-6 curves don't show much of a split, 2-seamers have a large split, etc. My understanding is the whole pitch type thing is pretty much chrome with negligible game effect.

If we were to get that detailed, yes, but I think a first step is to just set it up like hitters - have a Vs. L rating and a Vs. R rating.

Bump. Just love seeing my lefty specialist allowing a .300 average to lefties and walking more than a batter per inning against them, while dominating righties...

I'm a little bit confused about this. What you're suggesting is a fine idea, but generally, as it is now, lefty hitters - who do have a split - will hit more poorly against lefty pitchers. So you should see some kind of effect where lefties who pitch almost exclusively against lefties (LOOGY types) will have that reflected in their stats, and vice versa. Why isn't it happening?

    I don't know. :\

See filihok's post #6 in this thread where he links to a study he did indicating that lefty pitchers underperform.

On the other hand I have a screwball righty who completely shuts down lefties. I suspect this is just coincidence, I've seen other righties dominate lefties. So I've learned to watch the WHIP splits and not rely so much on LHP vs. LHB.

It's coincidence. The pitches listed mean nothing. I even tested this by editing pitchers. In one I just ran, I re-rated all pitches to minimum value, set velocity to minimum, and set every pitch thrown to none. He had the second lowest earned run season of his career with a 3.18 ERA and 3.38 DICE.

It's actually not coincidence. Pitchers with strong breaking pitches have a bigger split differential than those that rely on fastballs.

But if you delete all of a pitcher's pitches, the game just does the best with the data that it has.

Is this thread a suggestion to make pitcher split differentials USER EDITABLE?
