Same. I think he's a solid player and can certainly repeat his last year maybe one more time in the next 8. But 200 mill is saying Fielder is a top 3 player in all of baseball.

Salaries have actually been going DOWN.
And, even if Mauer doesn't repeat that level of power, he's STILL indisputably the best catcher in the game.
Yes, he's a catcher, but he's athletic and his injury history is not nearly as dire as dickay seems to think it is. A player that's already as low on the defensive spectrum as he can go, has "old player skills" and a body type like Fielder's is a much greater risk long term than Joe Mauer.
This. Fielder's good, but he's not worth $200 million.
Quite you!!!

I don't really understand why you would give a first basemen a huge deal over a catcher, who can move down the defensive spectrum.
And Fielder's body doesn't exactly look like it will age well, which is the main reason why I would not do such a deal.
I would do something like 5 year/80-100 million though.
Yankees should acquire him to be their DH. Then they can go out and get Adrian Gonzalez and make him their LF and get Cliff Lee in FA. Also, Felix Hernandez/Zack Greinke/Joe Mauer will all be in pinstripes in 2011. A Yankee fan told me so it must be true.
