Bill Simmons has a great column mocking people who still rely on (only) basic statistics (batting average, home runs, RBI, etc.) and why you should at least familiarize yourself with the advanced metrics available and what they mean (even if you don't understand how they're calculated). And it's Bill Simmons, so he presents it in an easy enough way that only Bill Simmons can.
Basically, he explains why HoustonGM will win every fantasy league that he's in, and nobody else will.(For example, any mainstream writer, announcer or talking head who discusses someone's 2010 power credentials solely by referring to homers and RBIs needs to hop in the Hot Tub Time Machine and go back to 1986.)
