Is Jim Edmonds a Hall of Famer?

After debating with some people, I am curious what you guys think.

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...01.shtml?redir

    .284/.377/.528 132 OPS+

Career WAR of 66.6, sandwiched between Eddie Murray and Pudge

    4 time all star
    8 time gold glove winner
    1 nl silver slugger

and if he is a hall of famer?

    What hat does he wear?

Cardinals, of 8 years? How many players had less seasons with the team they would wear the hat for in Cooperstown?

Also, Scott Rolen is a similar discussion (although I think he would wear a Phillies hat if elected)...although third basemen are highly over looked in hall of fame voting.

I would have to say no, because he just doesn't have the numbers.

Besides, if you look down near the bottom of the page, Baseball Reference posts "Hall of Fame Monitor" scores, which are a pretty solid barometer of a specific player's chances at winding up in Cooperstown and he's nowhere close.

Also, I believe Nolan Ryan went in to the Hall of Fame as a Ranger, despite playing more for both Houston & California. So there's one.

then what do you say about his career WAR of 66.6?

That is a much higher number than several hall of famers, including some first ballot.

    That's one stat, but I don't think that's the be-all to end-all factor.

what about his 8 gold gloves? and consistent superior defense? And that he was competing with an all time great centerfielder in Atlanta?

the near 400 homers, and ops over .900 not enough either?

I am curious why people would say he isn't a hall of famer

Initially I would say no... But the more I think about it I could see him possibly getting in if he manages to be with a very very weak class

I'm just saying it could be said he might have more GG's if Andruw Jones was not such an amazing defensive center fielder. I mean Jones put up some of the best defensive 8 numbers in a single season of all time.

Personally: I don't think he will get in, but I think he and Rolen should....and not because I am a Cardinals fan.

Lou Whitaker deserves to be in
    Allan Trammell
Barry Larkin (probably next year he will)
    Bobby Grich
    Edgar Martinez
    Larry Walker
    Ron Santo
    Tim Raines
    Robbie Alomar (hopefully next year)
    Mark McGwire
    Reggie Smith
    and Dwight Evans

as position players that should be in.

what's funny is that Puckett only has a career WAR of 45

Re: Is Jim Edmonds a Hall of Famer?

that makes me want to ask people why is Kirby a hall of famer but Edmonds not?

Is it the post season play? Can't be, Edmonds was better, and played more in the post-season.

Unless it's that Puckett went out on top, while Edmonds has stuck around a few years....but that is a very weak reason.
