Only thing I wouldn't have done would be the full no-trade clause, although now that I think about it, it's pretty irrelevant after 2013 or so since Mauer will have 10 and 5 rights anyway

Boy that's an awful lot of money............this deal could look awfully bad in 5-6 years....but, the payoff in the first 5 years of the contract if the Twins can continue capitalizing on a weak division and perhaps find a way to make a WS run.
My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.

I want to see how it is prorated out... is it frontloaded like A-Rod's or backload it to cripple them in 6 years

so it'll hurt them throughout the duration (more than 1/3rd of their overall salary avg. over the past decade), not just the last few years on a backloaded deal

23M on a ~100M payroll doesn't hurt them. A front loaded deal makes the most sense.

1/4 their salary, which is i believe slightly under 100 mil and far and away the highest they've had over the last decade, which has avg. around 60 mil. Way to take this one year as the norm. Now, we can all guesstimate that the new stadium will bring in the revenue necessary to maintain a 100mil+ payroll, but those would all be guesses.

It's not unheard of for a team to expand their payroll. All indications point to them..uh..expanding their payroll.

They'll be able to maintain that 100M for at least the next few years. They've said so....

    From a comment on BTF:
They've sold 2.4M tickets so far, which is equal to last year's paid attendance. Then they announced the signing. There are only single seat tickets left except for August and September games.

I've heard the Twins have sold over 2 million tickets, but the last part just isn't true. You can go online right now at get 8 seats together right behind the plate for the majority of the games. I bought a pair online for Saturday's exhibition game last night. Outside of Opening Day tickets--which have doubled in price on the secondary market in the last week--and a handful of other games, tickets are still readily available at fair prices.

That said, I couldn't be happier about 8 more years of Baby Jesus.
