How about this guy:
Chipper Jones (37*) - 2406.
His contract last until 2012, so he'd have to average 198 hits a season (he's never had higher than 189). He has an option in 2013, so if the Braves exercise it, he'd need to average 148 hits a season, which is more do-able. He also has 426 home runs, so he could get to 500 with 25 homers per season (or 19 if the option is picked up).
He has a better shot at 500 homers, but IMO he has more of a chance at 3,000 hits than Vizquel and Sheffield.
