Wow, that first song HGM posted sounds like...pretty bad band...and a singer straight out of New Wave. Like Flock of Seagulls had a baby with the worst song by Dishwalla.
'Guernica' sounds slightly better, but still pretty formulaic. Whats with the dual octave vocals? High whiny new wave, and then low quiet...weird.
Not a great singer there. Nothing I can really take away as above average.

For a while, when I was with my ex, I didn't ever give them a listen simply because she liked them and I didn't like a lot of the music she liked, but after we broke up I wound up listening to them (at first, just "Your Favorite Weapon" which was my favorite by them for a while but the other albums all grew on me and now I can't pick a favorite) and they grew on me quick to the point that they're 9th in total plays on my last.fm which I've had for 5 years, even though I've only been listening to them for a year and a half.

Last.fm similarity is not based on sound, but by listens. It means that a lot of people that listen to Say Anything also listen to Brand New.
