Chipper is a 10-5 (can only be traded with his permission) guy and AFAIK he has no want to leave Atlanta, especially so close to him retiring.
He did say that if he had another "off year" like 2009, he would probably retire. How many people would love to an off year like his (.264/.388/.430 118 OPS+)? I'll take a 2.8 WAR year as my off year any day.
Is this what you saw? If so, it's a joke. Hell, for one thing, Frank Wren is our GM, lol.
From the Atlanta Journal Constitution
ATLANTA- New Braves GM C.S. Strait announced the unconditional release of Chipper Jones this morning and confirmed that there was a trade in the works for Kansas City Royals third bagger, Josh Fields.
"It was time to move on. It was a good draft pick for Jones, but not so much the organization. With Fields we get a guy that's young, fresh, and ready to go."
Braves fans took to the street in a fury, carrying pitchforks for what they perceive as a bad move. "Fields? Are you [freaking] kidding me, Strait?" was the opinion of Josh Greene, 28, from Atlanta. Macon resident, Denise Franklin was just as blunt. "Josh Fields? Who the [heck] is Josh Fields? Strait is an idiot!"
The unflappable C.S. Strait shrugged his shoulders upon hearing this criticism. "Eh whatever. They're all in wonderland. Some people just need to move on."
