It was originally Moore and Minaya. Sabean decided to force his way in though.
Brian Stokes is being sent to LAA
Hahahahahahahahahhaahahahaha
All I do is Lin Lin Lin
On one hand, Minaya isn't paying anything at all for Matthews, so it's not a terrible deal in that regard. $2 mil is not a lot of money and Brian Stokes sucks.
On the other hand, Matthews Jr makes your team worse by the very virtue of being on the roster, unless he experiences a significant improvement in play.
Illini.
Yeah I need a Winn-Dixie grocery bag full of money right next to the VIP section...
A quarter of that $4 mil ($2 mil per for 2 years)/Brian Stokes package could have been spent signing a player to a minor league contract thats at least as good as Matthews.
Of course, that wouldn't even be needed if the Mets were smart since they already have a suitable center fielder to fill in while Beltran's out that's a lot better than Gary Matthews in Angel Pagan.
I forgot, Podsednik. That's right. For some reason I was thinking Sabean/Minaya, from the coasts. DM really is the leader in all things bad-move esque. Ramon Ramirez for 1 year of coco Crisp...Nunez for a now-released Mike Jacobs...and then there Yunesky, Podsednik, and the KC catcher signings.
Wow, they are way ahead. I dunno if Sabean's even playing. His moves - Huff, now Molina - have been almost good in comparison.
At least with Dayton Moore you can point to being really aggressive in the international market, which is what the Royals need to be doing.
Other than that...he sucks balls.
My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.
Sir Dr. Sen. Brain SOCKS! D.D.S.R.S.V.P has left the building.
Tragic.

I don't think this move is TERRIBLE, but it is really bad for the Mets and shows just how bad this management is. First of all, Mathews Jr. isn't better than Brian Stokes, so right off the bat this is a loss for the Mets. Second, even if we were to accept that Stokes wasn't better, I really don't think you had to give up any sort of real player to get him. Maybe a C prospect.
Well unfortunately, even we accept that the money doesn't matter (it's 2 mil so it doesn't), and Stokes is completely useless (arguable), the fact is that he is sub replacement. Unless he does something crazy (like get better), he's not going to help anybody.
