Aaron Boone is a HOF Red Sox killer.

Bret Boone isn't in any HOF.

How about for random burst of power hall of fame?

    It also includes Brady Anderson

MG doesn't like his players getting on base, I guess.
I've personally never been a big fan of walks.

The way I see it is, if you just stand there and take pitches to try and walk, you're missing chances at getting hits.

and missing chances at double plays, and less likly to swing at a ball and strike out, less likely to kill a rally, less likely to get on base therefore scoring a run.

Just when I thought u had started to grow up MG... u put this thread up guess my sig has to stay in tact

That's hilarious. I usually don't like to jump in on MG-bash-athon threads, but you need to analyze your position here. You can't go on 'gut' or feelings.

I would like you to be in the batter's box while Randy Johnson was in his rookie year, throwing more fastballs are your head and feet that anywhere over the plate, and explain that you are swinging at those for fear of 'missing out on getting hits.'

That would work if everything was in the strike zone, or if making random contact was anything better than a 25% chance at a hit.

One thing to note - which is better, a single or a walk?

You can single on the first pitch. Walk means at least 4 pitches. With a walk, you've tired out the pitcher more, in most cases.

The only advantage of the single is that it might have scored a guy from 2nd. If the bases are loaded, or empty, a walk is arguably better than a single.

I actualy agree with AOW 100% on the walk over Hit. I would BY FAR take a walk with the bases loded. no questions asked... i dont care if the pitcher is behind me... its a guarentee run!!! plis a 15-20% chance of another run!!!

Re: Is Bret Boone a Hall of Famer?

It's all situational. In most cases, a hit is better than a walk. But, of course, a walk is better than an out like 98% of the time.

Nevermind that metsguy is ridiculously inconsistent here. He hated Adam Dunn and argued that Juan Pierre was better but then suddenly switched to liking Adam Dunn because he walks and hits home runs and, if I recall correctly, complained that more people here and in real life didn't have Adam Dunn somewhere on their MVP ballot. This is because he "doesn't care for defense", either. Of course, it really doesn't matter what metsguy "cares for" because what he "cares for" doesn't determine what players are actually better. I don't care if you or anybody likes Bret Boone more than Bobby Grich and thinks Bret Boone is cooler...but don't turn that into "Bret Boone is just as good as Bobby Grich" because that's flat out false and stupid.

If you don't take walks, you're missing the chance to be good at scoring runs.

I think metsguy's status in this poll is summed up very well by Neil Young: "Know when you see him, nothing can free him. Step aside, open wide, it's the loner." Nothing wrong with that. Either that or he's an iconoclast. Nah, he's just a troll.

From 01-03' Boone was one of the top 2nd Basemans in the game with Alfonso Sorriano. He always had a good glove and had an MVP type season in 01'. If you stretch out those 3 seasons and make them more like 8 seasons, he could be a boarderline HOFer...maybe.....
