I like David DeJesus, I ain't calling him a first ballot Hall of Famer.
My runs created per 27 posts (RC/27p) was 12.4 last year. I should've been MVP.

This was all a large example to show people that Bobby Grich isn't a Hall of Famer.

Bret Boone is more of a borderline guy.

Well I also think Jimmy Key is a borderline guy. I'm for a big Hall.

Any hall that includes Bret Boone is a ridiculously big hall. He had 4 or 5 above average years, 2 excellent years. Do you know how many players have had that and better?

    A metric ****-ton.

I'm a lifelong M's fan, and there is no way that Bret Boone belongs in the HOF. He had 3 great years (01,02,03) in a 14 year career. High SO with mediocre BA & OBP. Decent glove. A solid player, but not an HOF'er.

Grich and Boone have a lot of similarities, but most of them are superficial. The big differences between them are that Boone had a very small edge in power; Grich walked a lot more, giving him a huge edge in OBP; Grich had far more good years, and never really had a bad year; and Grich compiled his numbers in an era that was far less favorable to hitters.

Adding it all up, Grich was a far better player than Boone. I'm not convinced that Grich deserves to be in the HoF, or even to get serious consideration, but he has at least some case. Boone doesn't.

That's like using Todd Zeile to convince me that Fred McGriff isn't a hall of famer

Boone has a career wOBA of .331. A league-average hitter has a wOBA ~.325-.335. For his whole career, Boone was an average hitter. He also had a low wRC+ total of 101. For comparison, Grich had a career wOBA of .359 and a career wRC+ total of 131. Another comparison, to my favorite player of all-time and who is, in not just my opinion, an actual borderline Hall of Famer, had a career wOBA of .376 and a career wRC+ total of 133.

I know you dislike sabermetrics, Metsguy, but you can't just create a post and state your opinion as fact when your opinion is wrong. You should at least check out more advanced stats, and not just traditional ones, before you claim that some player is similar to another player.

Believe it or not, I've never heard of Bobby Grich before today. That's what happens when you don't care about baseball until 2003 and don't have any reason to look up Orioles or Angels histories.

MG doesn't like his players getting on base, I guess.
