    WORLD series?

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...f=twitter_feed

TOKYO (AP) -- The champions of U.S. Major League Baseball could face the champions of Japanese professional baseball in a regular Global World Series under a plan being discussed by the two countries.

In meetings with Japanese commissioner Ryozo Kato in Milwaukee, MLB commissioner Bud Selig proposed that the Japanese and U.S. champions play each other, the Nikkansports newspaper reported Thursday.
I would LOVE to see this.

I know there are a lot of problems with extending the season and getting MLB owners to jump on board but I think that finding a way to make baseball more of a world game would be awesome.

    You guys?

I'd love to see it too, but I have to admit I find it to be a longshot.

I am all for it. It is a long shot, but then it would be a true "world" series

The MLB series is already to technical WORLD Series though. All the best players in the world play here, ya know. Dominicans, Koreans, Cubans, Ricans, Dutch, etc.

Plus, the best Japanese players have now begun leaving the Land of the Rising Sun (starting with H. Nomo and Ichiro Suzuki; now all kinds of guys are over here from So Taguchi to Dice-K and Tad Iguci to Chin Wang). Meanwhile marginal MLB players like Buddy Carlisle and Lew Ford are the ones leaving to play everyday in Japan.

And this is one reason that it probably won't happen. If the MLB winner wins, that doesn't mean much because they are supposed to, while if the Japan League winner wins, then MLB looks bad. Second, the revenue generation possibilities for watching a US team (probably) beat up on a Japan league team over 5 or 6 games wouldn't be all that high, especially if the US team was not the Yankees. And third, I can't see the players ever going for it. They aren't going to get paid for it, they don't want a longer season, and I'm guessing that most of them don't care if they beat a Japan league team.

The real image problem would be scheduling the series, and then watching four or five high-profile players go on the disabled list right before the series. And for any pitcher that had thrown 200+ innings during the regular season, and another 30 or so in the post-season, and had any aches in my shoulder or elbow, there is no way that their team wants them throwing in a glorified exhibition game.

    Re: WORLD series?

Just to add, and I just skimmed the thread, so sorry if it was already stated.

this is in ADDITION to our regular world series?

it would basically be an additional game for the winner each yaer?

nm, i see it, i vote yes!

would be great! a money maker, help exposure......would it wear out the players?

players could get a cut of revenue made

Interesting idea, but methinks no one would want to do it.

You don't typically see millionaires working overtime.

Um, do you not recall that a pretty large bunch of players skipped over the WBC?

And do you not know the concept of "World Series shares"?

Well, when you say 'overtime' most people get paid for working overtime.
