What Player do you think is poised to have a breakout, surprise season in 2010?

Name one player that you think could be a big surprise performer in 2010? Like how Ludwick was in 08, how Grienke stepped it up in 09, or Lee in 08?

I am going with Ricky Nolasco, I think he will finally get it all together and will put up Cy Young like numbers in Florida.

    I'm talking like a sub 3.50 era, with a solid 16-18 wins and over 200 k's.

    Any guesses?

I think Ricky Nolasco would be my pick as well, but to throw out another player I'll say Ian Snell.

He might not break out, but if Eric Chavez plays 50 games it will certainly be shocking to me!

Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers. As for batters this is tuff. It is a pitcher leaning year. I will still call Justin Upton, Dbacks. Lots of people said '09 was his breakout year. I think we are going to see some big numbers in '10 making it his real breakout year. What is he? 22, 23? If he can adjust the attitude, he will be the IT man for the next 10 years.

I disagree on the Upton thought.

I see him turning out more like a Dimitri Young....

Had all the potential in the world....still had a pretty decent career, but nothing worth going crazy over.

same with his brother, just like Dimitri and Delmon, B.J. and Justin have all the talent, but no clue how to use it

Justin Upton is nothing like either of the Young brothers. I will say though, 2009 was Upton's breakout year. He had a 134 wRC+ while being well above average defensively and stealing 20 bases in 25 attempts all while being one of the youngest regulars in all of baseball.

If 2009 wasn't his breakout then your standards are very high.

I still think younger Upton has it. Bat him 1, 2, 3, or 4. Nothing but upside. Coaching will be the key in the end. Thinking that 09 was but a taste.

McCutchen is a def. yes. Been hearing about this kid for 4 years now. Great record at Florida. Great rookie season. Lack of bats on Pitt behind him will hurt him. Still good call.

I think both Upton brothers are extremely talented, but Justin definitely has the better potential. I definitely agree he could put up a great season next year, but to be honest I'm half expecting it. I won't be surprised unless he outproduces Pujols. I could easily see him being one of the 10 best hitters in the game next year.

A little aside. Imagine watching four 3basemen in the same High School division. David Wright, Mark Reynolds, BJ Upton (also played SS), and Ryan Zimmerman. All 4 of these guys played against each other. Dont ask me why 3b was the superstar position at the time, but it was.

Justin learned from all these guys. He just needs a coach and a syringe of humility and he can be the next Griffey.

must we have this thread topic every 3 months lol?

anyway..as I posted in the other thread, i'm going to stick with my breakout pick that failed last year. Carlos Gomez now with a new team in the NL is going to finally exhibit his allstar potential.

As a Twins fan, I hate to say this, but Delmon Young. He came on really strong when given full-time duties at the end of last season, showing some power as well. Don't be surprised to see him hit .300, 20 homers, no walks.

since someone already stole Eric Chavez I'll go with Albert Pujols - I expect Albert to hit .385, 55+ homers, 160+ RBI, .580+ OBP and make a run at Bonds slugg% record and IBB record.
