    Wes Welker

Randy Moss appears to be on course for the Hall Of Fame. But I wonder, what does Wes Welker need to do to make it to Canton? Is it too late?

He's going to have to continue to play at this level. The fact that he played for NE might help him. It's going to be tough though. When I was growing up my favorite player was Art Monk. At the time he was considered the greatest receivers of all time. He held all the major records(Most rec season & Career, most consecutive games with rec, etc, etc) until Rice broke them. He was never flashy never bragged just went about his business kinda like Welker. Despite the fact the held almost every major receiving record at one point or another he had to wait a very long time until getting elected to the HOF. Lesser receivers who were more flashy & outspoken such as Michael Irvin got elected before Monk. I can see the same happening to Welker. 100+ receptions in a season are very common now and I don't think Welker is in the top 5 of his era yet....

The biggest problem Monk had for Hall induction is that everyone remembered those last 5 years. He held on way too long and spent too many years as a bad 4th or 5th receiver on some bad, bad football teams.

Also, as good as he was, he did have stretches in his prime where he wasn't the team's biggest playmaking wideout. Irvin was always the #1 in Dallas, and the #2 usually wasn't all that good.

The Posse Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders, Art Monk, Clint Didier at TE. Those were the days... So that is a good point. That being said, i don't think he held on to long. I remember him playing one season as Jet and then a couple of games as a Eagle. Anyway if your going to hold that against him you could the same for just about any reciever. Remember Rice as a Seahawk or Bronco or Chris Carter as a Dolphin. As for Irvin I remember Alvin Harper was a very good #2. He also had a HOF QB and a HOF RB which Monk never had. Not to mention a damn good TE as well.

His last few years with Washington weren't exactly stellar, either.

I agree that Rice's last years were pathetic, but his career was so astoundingly amazing that it doesn't matter when it comes to him.

Alvin Harper wasn't that great. He was a pure speed guy who couldn't run a route to save his life. Irvin was always the guy getting the double team.

And last I checked, John Riggins was in the Hall...

So is Theismann I think. His numbers were average his last few years in Washington certainly better than #4 or #5 receiver numbers. Of course I'm not looking anything up. I'm relying only on memory which could be wrong. As for Harper I don't know his stats either but I remember him killing Washington all the time, Novacek as well. Basically I hate Dallas.

I think he has a solid shot at getting in. Usually with the NFL when it comes to electing HOFer's they usually are guys if not outstanding are considered key guys in Dynasties. I believe Welker to be one of their key guys in all those great seasons in New England, but for sure a lot of others will make the venture before he does.

Wes played in Miami for most of the great years in New England. His first year in New England was 2007

True, but when its all said and done, he was pivotal in the offenses success since he arrived.

I agree. With nearly every offense he's been in, he's been an amazing slot receiver. In New England, with the exposure and the HoF QB and the top 5 receiver of all time he has risen to one of the greatest slot guys of all time.

Well he will need to play at this level for 3-4 more years at least. as he;s only played 4 years so far. One thing that really hurts him though is a lack of TD receptions, totaling just 16 in his career.

And all this in the pass happy era, mean thats depsite three great years Welker is a long way from the Hall.

But don't start printing tickets, in 1997 when herman moore has 28 (as welker) coming on 3 100 reception seasons(as welker) and had 532 rec/7484 yrds /52TD (all much more than welker) 4 pro bowld and 3 all nfl 1st teams (more than Welker) many would have thought the same.

he also managed all his numbers with QBs Rodney Peete, Scott Mitchell, and Charlie Batch throwing to him .... not exactly a Canton bound crew there.
