damn... Forgot about Scutero. That wont work.

And after signing Cameron Youk cant go back to LF. BUT if you trade elsbury to get Gonzales, put Youk in LF and Cameron in CF.

well for one it looks les and less like they will get Beltre. but

I don't thin the Sox have any real interst in starting/playing Lowell - thats was the point of the deal to send him somewhere he can get playing time.

Now Ortiz is teh DH, Youkilis at 3rd and Kotchman at 1st. With Lowell spot filling in as nesacry to give days off or keep Ortiz away from lefties. Youkilis is NOT playing LF.

(sorry to interupt the conversation you were having with yourself TNP)

    Youk should not play left.

For a front office that was keen enough to avoid playing Lugo at SS unless absolutely necessary, you think playing Ortiz at 1B is a realistic option? When Youk and Kotchman are on the team?

Lowell was a decent to good fielder before his hip injury, and Drs say his range will return in 2010. Now it's just his thumb as an issue. 2009 was the only down defensive year, IIRC. No reason to dump him a-la Lugo - for a solid guy like Lowell, the org certainly is treating him like a disease. The fan reaction when the trade fell through was pretty positive. With Manny and Bay gone, Lowell is a big guy for name recognition, and connection to the 07 WS.

What will happen this year, assuming they don't release Lowell outright or pay to ship him off, is

    3B - Lowell
    1B - Youk
    C - VMart
    DH - Ortiz

On days when Lowell needs off,
    3B - Youk
    1B - VMart/Kotchman
    C - VTek/VMart
    DH - Ortiz

I feel very sorry for Kotchman, he has to be in this giant positional kerfuffle and he gets the raw end of it.

agreed. I was supprised when that's what the braves wanted back in that Texeria deal. Seamed odd to me at the time... but it did get is 1/2 a season of Laroche at his best
    Fingers crossed he comes back.

Barring another significant move, Kotchman will be the starting everyday 1B at the seasons start. Of course, that means he'll rotate with VMart when Tek catches. How much Tek catches will depend upon how well Kotchman does. If Kotch struggles, I think you may see Tek catch twice through the rotation. If Kotch does OK, Tek will likely catch only Wakefield and against LH's when they try to get alot of RH in the lineup.

I think Boston is just going to release Lowell after he comes off of the DL.

why sign beltre when youk can play third?

and Gonzalez is a much more superior defensive first basemen than Ortiz

True... and if you can get Gonzalez you gotta do it... put Youk at 3rd and Ortiz at 1B.

See to me this is one of the problems with the DH... it can create a MONSTER logjam. I like the way the Angels handeled it and how I THOUGHT the yanks were going to handle it, by keeping the DH spot "open" and rotate guys in and out to keep them in the lineup nearly every day. The Angels had 4 OF's that they rotated in and out (tho Vlad kind of had to take it over)

Yeah, not being a good enough player to be a regular in the MLB, sure does suck.
