Reds Restructure, Extend Rolen's Contract
Chipper did it in his last contract (05 I think), and I am sure others have. stillg ets his $$$ gets 2 more yers guarenteed and an extra 10 or so Million.Rolen's original contract called for an $11MM salary in 2010, however under the new agreement he'll earn $6MM next year, and $6.5MM in both 2011 and 2012. The Reds gain about $5MM in payroll flexibility this offseason with the move, something they sorely need.
I like seeing guys do that to help out the team... To me that shows that there are players that are out thre that DO care about their team's success. That flexability could mean a good player/teamate does not have to be traded now or another one can be signed.
