There is one reason, and one reason only, that the bowl system is still in place...money. If you think the NCAA cares about anything else, you're deluded.
The NCAA makes infinitely more coin from 30+ bowl games (with sponsorship, TV rights, etc.) than it will in a 15-game playoff. I say go back to the old system - no computers, just good old-fashioned split national titles!
