    Moneyball the Movie... LIVES!!

    Moneyball gets new director:

Baseball flick MONEYBALL, starring Brad Pitt, has found its new head coach in Oscar-nominated director Bennett Miller.

Miller, whose last work was CAPOTE in 2006, will helm the story written by powerhouse scriptwriters Steve Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin (based on Michael Lewis's best-selling book) about "Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane, who defied conventional wisdom and even his own scouts by fielding a baseball team of castoffs to create the ultimate underdogs en route to one of the most unlikely winning streaks in the history of professional sports."

MONEYBALL had originally been a Steven Soderbergh project, but the director got yanked off the film just days before principal shooting was set to begin due to rewrites the director had made. Shame.
F*ckin' A man. I would LOVE to see this on the big screen.

Nah. It was alright, not amazing. All I can remember from that year was Terrence Long robbing that homerun at the right field pullpen in Fenway. That season killed me.
Ready for Offseason rumors and trade talk!

A 20 game win streak is pretty amazing.

But, really, it's a movie promo...of course they're going to hype it up.

This. When you make a movie about something in sports, you always have to overly dramatize it, otherwise the casual viewer won't care as much.

When I see a movie based on some event I know a lot about, I usually get frustrated by how "Hollywood" it is, and how much they deviate from the facts.

    Note the John Dillinger movie

Would anyone watch a movie about this?

"Fielding a baseball team of talented players, many of whom had long and productive careers, including one of the best SS of the decade, to create an inexpensive but talented team en route to winning a division and getting bounced by a mediocre Twins team in the first round of the playoffs."
    Illini.

It's ridiculous. I respect what Beane was able to accomplish, essentially realizing how important OBP is when no one else did, but some people act like he won 100 games with a bunch of no-talent assclowns. Zito, Mulder, and Hudson would've been terrific pitchers for any GM, and having that foundation makes the rest of it a lot easier.

One night I sat down and read the entire Soderbergh script. Seriously. It really sucked hard and was filled with lots of weirdness.
