Nobody calls John Lackey "J-Lackz" either. Metsguy just enjoys making up stupid nicknames that only he uses.

Howard could give us value every day. Santana could give us value once every 5 days. The difference is clear to me IMO.

This is the most tired and incorrect statement bandied about that is technically true. Yes, starters only pitch every 5 days...but they have a much greater impact on the games that they do play in. In fact, a starter who plays all year will have more plate appearances against him than an everyday player that plays all year will make. Being an everyday player does not make you more valuable than every starting pitcher.

Adam Everett can give you value every day, too, but would you take him over Johan Santana?

I know you are joking, even you know that logic doesn't work.

Santana gives you value on every pitch every 5th day. Howard gets 20 at bats every 5th day.

Yeah he can play defense and is kinda fast. Johan can only play defense once every five days

So Santana has equal value if he pitches 6 2/3 innings. That's hardly a given.

Uh, no, not necessarily how that works.

Also, Santana averaged nearly exactly 6.2 innings per start in 2009. More than that in 2008.

I was wrong. Now that I think about it, we could easily get a free-agent 1B or something, so we don't need to trade Santana to get Howard. It was a silly idea.
