    The speculative trade thread

I figured instead of everyone posting a different thread for a trade proposal, or using the actual transactions thread, this would be a thread where people can post their trade ideas and get feedback on them.

    Here's my first:

    Braves trade:
    Jair Jurrjens
    Kris Medlen
    Cody Johnson

    Padres trade:
    Adrian Gonzalez

The reason I think this would work is because the Padres would recieve a top of the rotation (in the NL) starter under team control for 4 years, a good young prospect that could potentially be a strong #3, and a power hitting OF who admittedly needs to work on his K totals.

So would the Padres do it? The only two players (if I'm the GM) who would be untouchable are Hanson and Heyward.

What kind of package could we send that would equal Boston? I have a feeling that Hanson and Heyward wouldn't be considered. Would replacing Johnson with Jordan Schafer up the offer? I think Boston's package would center around Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury, with maybe Bard or Delcarmen added to it. I really think we have the players to outbid them, even without Hanson or Heyward.

I would let AGonz go to the Braves. We will keep Youk/Lowell/Ortiz/VMart/Kotchman.

I don't feel ike giving up Tacoby or Buchhhholz for AGonz.

I don't see why the pardes gm would do it.

giving up a franchise player for a potential number 1 or 2 rotation pitcher for four years and then two question marks.

Jurrjens is a good start, but I think Freddie Freeman is a necessary addition, as well another pitching prospect, or middle infield prospect.

I say, either raise the talent level of your specs, or add more high potential specs.

That would work for me. Hopefully if we got Gonzalez, we'd lock him up long term.

    How about:

    Jurrjens
    Freeman
    Medlen
    Randall Delgado

Also, FYI, this is our Top 10 prospect list:

    1. Jason Heyward, of
    2. Freddie Freeman, 1b
    3. Julio Teheran, rhp
    4. Mike Minor, lhp
    5. Craig Kimbrel, rhp
    6. Christian Bethancourt, c
    7. Randall Delgado, rhp
    8. Zeke Spruill, rhp
    9. Cody Johnson, of
    10. Adam Milligan, of

The Braves do have the players to outbid Boston. Heyward and Hanson are better than any prospects at the top of Boston's system, but it wouldn't make sense for the Braves to give them up for Gonzalez.

I was simpling talking about the fact that Boston would actually give up guys like Buchholz.

They would need to include an avatar to be named later so Metsguy has one to replace Perez.

This would likely never happen since it would be a P.R. nightmare in their new stadium, but let's say that the Minnesota Twins discover that Joe Mauer is going to be too expensive and he's going to rest the market next fall. They decide to pull the trigger on a trade and maximize their return.

Obviously, most other teams won't be able to afford him, and they wouldn't want to give up the boatload of prospects for him since he would be going on the market anyway.

If you're the Yankees or the Red Sox though and you obviously can afford him (the Mets don't count until they're a Major League team again) and are confident enough you would be the highest bidder, who would you trade for him? Come up with a trade that they could make for Mauer.

Go ahead and come up with a trade with another team too if you want, even though that would be highly unlikely. If he leaves the Twins, I would predict one of those two teams getting him.

    The Yanks:

    Phil Hughes
    Austin Jackson
    Jesus Montero

    The Red Sox:

    Clay Buchholz
    Junichi Tazawa
    Ryan Westmoreland

Those are the 3 main players I'd want back if I was the Twins GM. I figure at the minimum, it would take at least 2 of those 3 from each team. I'd probably want all 3 from the Red Sox, plus either Bard or Delcarmen.

Yeah, it's all about give and take. If you want to take something that is as valuable as Gonzalez, you are gonna have to give up something that hurts. Our area of strength is SP, so we need to deal from that strength.

Look at what Mark Bowman wrote at mlb.com:

Braves would have to provide a return package that includes Schafer, Freddie Freeman, Mike Minor or Randall Delgado and a least one other above-average prospect.
Firstly, We can't trade Minor (in fact I don't even think he can be a PTBNL until after next years draft) because of the Incaviglia Rule. Secondly, unless that "above-average prospect" is Heyward, the Padres will laugh in our faces.

Yeah it will hurt to lose Jurrjens, but I think that Lowe will rebound in 2010 at least a little, and a full season of Hanson with Kawakami getting more used to a MLB schedule should at least ease the lose of Jurrjens.

So, apparently Miguel Cabrera is being made available.

What would be a fair package for him?
