He'll be fine.

The marginal benefit of Halladay over Billingsley simply isn't worth the massive increase in cost and loss of team control.

I don't think the Dodgers should avoid trading for Halladay, I just think that offering Kershaw or Billingsley would defeat the purpose.

    Yeah...a marginal difference.

4.03 ERA in the NL vs. 2.79 ERA in the AL

Real marginal...only a run and a half lower in the more difficult league.

I don't see how having a player on your team the year of his free agency lets you "beat other teams to the punch." How did that work out for the Cards and Holliday? and Angels and Tex? The only reason the Mets signed Johan was because they gave him a huge contract anyway, and the Yankees or Red Sox weren't likely to go much higher than that.

I kind of recall that they negotiated that there would be a contract extension before the Johan trade occurred or something, but either way, I highly doubt Halladay is going to be giving hometown discounts to his next team.

When a player wants to hit free agency and get his money, very little can stop him. Just look at LeBron.

Presumably, acquiring Halladay now comes with the negotiation window to work out an extension.

Yeah but for a guy like Halladay, he's still going to take the best offer. He's not likely to pass up a more lucrative offer from the Yanks or Sox because he's playing in LA at the time.

How do you know? You know what his contract demands are?

Which becomes a moot point if a deal to LA includes an extension window that results in an extension through 2014 or so.

What I'm saying though is that LA will agree to a long-term deal with him before acquiring him.

    Re: Halladay to Dodgers?

Best case scenario for me: We deal him to a contender for a good haul, doesn't resign there, and we get him back for 2011.

That's wishful thinking, but one can dream.

I would definately give up Billingsley if I'm the Dodgers to get Roy (assuming they can work out a contract negotiation).....but if I'm the Jays I need more than Billingley. Roy is proven to be one of the best pitchers in baseball for the past few years and is still relatively young.

I would also give up Kershaw to get Roy....Kershaw has less than 1 good season who knows what he'll end up being, you know what you get with Halladay.

Didn't he already say he wasn't going to resign with Toronto?
