    Atlanta Detroit Swap???

    Cabrerra
    For
    Lowe
    Kris Medlen
Freddie Freeman (Wont need him now)
    15 million

is ir possible and would either pull the trigger? I know Miggy gest 20 mill per year... but thats what its going to cost. losing Lowe saves 10 so for 3 years its like 10 mill added to payroll. that gives them some flexability to keep Gonzales, and get a LF.

For some reason, there isn't one Braves fan that wants to keep Derek Lowe. Everyone wants to ship him out. You can never have enough good starting pitching.

Absolutely no way that happens unless Dave Dombrowski gets replaced by a rock.

It's not that I want him gone... in fact I wanted him brought here last year... but with Huddy added for 3 more years... And Hanson and Jair along with Kawakami, and vazquez... I think we are set. Like you said we can never have enough SP but Lowe makes the most and it can be better used elswhere if someone will take him. I would like to see Vazquez estended 2-3 years tho... that sets up a rotation of (in no particular order)
    Hanson
    Jair
    Vazquez
    Hudson
    Kawakami
for 2 more years at least.

    What HGM said.

You'd probably need Tommy Hanson in that deal, especially if the Tigers are taking Lowe.

Instead of trading Lowe, I would think maybe the Tigers would take Hanson along with all those other players and it might be more attractive to the Tigers.

Lowe's not a bad starting pitcher, but his contract is just way to much. Not to mention the point of the trade is to shed salary, not take on more. I know they get 15M, but that doesn't help, especially with over 50M coming off the books after 2010.

Well, and there's the whole fact that a mediocre offensive team is bailing on a terrific 2-way player just to get pitching that they don't really need. The trade doesn't make them better for next year, doesn't make them better in 3 years, doesn't make them better at all.

And why trade Cabrera? He's still only 26. If Detroit really wants starting pitching that bad, they could have signed Lowe last year or sign one of the starters that are free agents this offseason.

Maybe for off field problems he had this past year? Just speculation on my part.
