Well, let's just say us Bi-polars (or manic depressives if you prefer) can disappear even from online forums for months at a time.

OK, I think Jeter deserves the MVP, however I think Tex deserves it more. If you lead the league in homers and RBI for the team with the best record. Plus you play gold glove defence... Mark Texeria for MVP.

You know this guy exists that led the league in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage...while playing Gold Glove defense...as a catcher?

and being the team leader, in two minor categories doesn't really qualify someone as an mvp for the league, and he won a GG while arguably being the 7th best defensive first basemen in the league

Joe Mauer would be my choice hands down.

Am I reading the advanced defensive metrics right? Because Miguel freakin' Cabrera is 2nd in the AL according to FanGraphs, and yes Teixeira is 7th. There goes another undeserved Gold Glove to the Yankee stable. Hah, Jeter's closer to being a legit GG at SS then Tex is at 1B, behind only Andrus and Aybar.

I don't like UZR as much for first basemen as I do the other positions, but yes, you're reading it right.

The visual/scouting reports I've heardon both Cabrera and Jeter do agree with UZR though - they both were much improved this season.

I got nothing against Mauer, I am old school. Back in the day the best player on the best team got to be MVP. The Yankees were the best team and so my vote goes to Tex. Now since I don't have a vote, it don't matter.

I got to admit, I never even heard of advanced defensive metrics so I won't argue it. But, somebody must have thought Jeter and Teixeria could play some defense. And please don't tell me they won because they were Yankees. I hate that lame knee jerk, thoughtless and brainless, my team ain't as good as the yankees so there must be a conspiracy, style of thought.

Re: Where is Derek Jeter's Recognition?

they won because of the defensive reputations, not because they are yankees. once you win one, it's easy to win 2,3,4 etc....the higher the number goes, the more likely you are to win another.

Tori Hunter and Ichiro would be similar examples.

Jeter's defense improved this year, but he was probably the third best defensive shortstop, and Tex wasn't even close. But it's largely a popularity vote.
