You could have Nate Robertson for pretty much anything as long as the Tigers didn't have to take any salary back.

The Detroit Tigers' signing of closer Jose Valverde has caused a schism in the fanbase

There are those who believe a closer was needed, no matter the cost. They are adamant GM Dave Dombrowski made the correct move. Then you have others, the editorial team at BYB amongst them, who think Dombrowski is off his nut for spending so much money on a closer when there are several in house candidates already under team control.

Depending on your point of view, either the Tigers have a plan for contention this year and into the future, or have made several disjointed moves, trying to get younger and cheaper, while getting older and more expensive.

Let's take a quick tour of the Tigers' off season, and go over what has transpired. Let's see of there was a "plan."

I think everyone is confused because they assumed that trading Granderson was a cost-motivated move.

I don't think finances were the primary motivation for trading Granderson. I think the Tigers believe he was trending down and wasn't going to be worth the money in 2 years, so they traded him while his value was still high.

I don't agree with that line of thinking, but it's pretty obvious that that was their thinking. Unless you want to tell me that Dombrowski is too stupid to remember what he did a month ago, which is a little farfetched.

You should at least put a quote from your blog that's relevant, like the part about Miggy, so that the self-promotion isn't so blatantly obvious.

    Detroit
    Miguel Cabrera
    Age : 27
    2010 PA : 647
    2010 wRC+ : 147
    2010 OBP : .374
    2010 SLG : .549
    2010 Fielding : -1
    2010 WAR : 4.5

Cabrera really is one of the best hitters in the game and it’s scary to think that he’s just entering his age 27 season. The one thing in the projections that I disagree with is his fielding projection. I do think he’s a slightly above average defender at 1B, although the difference between -1 and what I’m thinking isn’t huge. Expect 35+ HR and a ~.400 OBP.
