    Anyone enjoying Football Mogul?

Is anyone enjoying Football Mogul? I've been pretty disappointed and made several negative comments, wondered how many were enjoying the game. What level do you play, sim or play-by-play, etc. I do not intend to argue with anyone unless perhaps my experience is diametrically opposite, e.g., "the computer play-calling is really brilliant!" might draw a few counter-examples

    I enjoy it somewhat actually.

I have some pretty draconian house rules on my behavior, and that keeps the league stable year after year. For example I've recently had the Cleveland Browns, took a few years to advance all the way to the AFC Championship, and am now back down to two consecutive 5-11 seasons.

You have to overlook a lot of stuff that's...missing...to have fun. At least I do. Still, the way I'm currently playing I can blitz through two or three seasons at a stretch and watch my team develop. The week by week stuff is interesting in that I give myself a few seconds visceral reaction (oh great, we're 5-7. No playoffs for us. Ooh, we beat the Steelers. Next?)

As you can guess, I'm simming them all. The PbP in FM is....well, not what I like. I can't argue for or against the play calling really, I just know that I've seen far better out of single season simulator games and I'm kinda spoiled.

So, for me it's about watching my team develop for a few seasons and hopefully make the playoffs as quickly as possible.

This game has as much depth as Minesweeper. Incredibly dissapointing... And OVER PRICED!

I pretty much echo CatKnight on this. FM is my 'okay, I want to play through a few seasons and see what I can do' game. If I want depth, I fire up Front Office Football '07.

It's fair. I like the historical drafts. Drafting Ken Anderson and the steel curtain and rewriting history. It's incredibly fast if all you are doing is drafting and running seasons. Wish there was the ability to add player pictures like baseball, watch for Hall of Fame announcements and it had a better history for players.

Again, I don't mind it, you just have to overlook the many flaws and total lack of support lately.

Actually I have 3 Football sim games.

    1. Front Office Football. Probably the best football game. If you seriusly have the time and can work your way around the clunky interface you can have a game with with all the rosters, drafts and great game play. My problem is I can't devote the time to figure it all out.

    2. Action PC Football. I like that the game can call defenses for me and the game play is very customizable. Problem is, it is ONLY good for playing with historical data and there is no draft, no trading and no finances. And it cost extra for historical rosters and special mods.

    3. Sports Mogul. I am busy and this is the easiest game to play. I like all the rosters, trades and drafts, but there are a lot of areas this game needs improving on. It would be great if the game at least had most of the bells and whistles that Baseball mogul has.

i think i spent more time downloading & installing the demo than i spent playing it

the only way i can describe it is that football mogul is an atari, front office football is a ps3

I have it, and enjoy it. There are a lot of things missing, yes. But i imagine it will continue to improve each year. I don't know why it doesn't mirror Baseball Mogul more.

The real issue, is that i am not a huge football fan, only occasionally care.

Excellent point. For the price it would be nice to have more of the BM features. Pro Bowl selection, pictures and a lot of the tools are missing.

Also, for the amount of comments and concerns, there is very little support thus far.

So far, no one has said they enjoy the play-by-play mode. Anybody?

I have not got into it. I have other football sims for that. It's ok for I needed it for.

There is effectively a Pro Bowl selection. Turn on 'Awards' from I think the Options screen. It saves the 'selections' to a text file at the end of the season.

I do, I mean, I play football sims for the Xs n Os.

I'm playing 2010 demo, it seems the number of plays in a book is fixed,
but you can save multiple playbooks and "alternate them" during a game.
You can also adjust plays, formations, personnel on the fly.

There are flaws in the way the AI plays at the end of the game, no doubt about it.

    Re: Anyone enjoying Football Mogul?

I prefer baseball sims to football sims for the same reason I prefer real-life football over real-life baseball.

    Season length.

In real life, I prefer the NFL's 16 hames to MLB's 162 games because it makes each individual game that much more important. However, when it comes to Mogul, baseball becomes a daily game while football is a weekly game. Thus, when pkaying a single baseball season, there is so much more to do than there is when playing a football season.
