Since nobody else is playing, I'm gonna guess Christy Matthewson, possibly tied with someone else, but I can't remember who.

Just read a book about the NY Giants from the John McGraw era.

Currently reading COBB, and by the way, Ty Cobb was effing crazy.

yup, and star spangled banner was orginally played in 1918 during the seventh game of the world series, it was more or less spontaneous by the band there.

I should have known this, and I admit I had to look it up.

Ned Garver went 20-12 for the last place St Louis Browns (52-102) in 1951. Of course, that was also the Year of The Midget in St Louis.

Carlton would have likely duplicated the feat in 1972, had it not been for the players strike. That probably cost the last place Phils a 100 loss season (59-97), to go with Carlton's 27-10 record.

I would have guessed Carlton, but wouldn't have assumed i was right, but he had an incrible year, on a terrible team.

Was it the first team to use 3 different managers in the same season?
