Name the only player ( I think he was the only one) who had the highest batting average in MLB in a particular season, yet failed to win the batting title. Yes, he easily met the qualifications.

I tried to think of a question that SK couldnt answer by googling it.

    Jeffy: 32

Cal Ripken Jr. is no. 8 on the all-time games played list with 3001.

My question: On August 19th, 1924, who was in third place in the National League?

It had to be someone who was traded mid season.

could be someone that had the highest average by a few hundreths of a point but wasn't recognized for whatever reason, it could also be something strange, like in a strike season or whatever.

    Eddie Murray in 1990.

He led the majors with a .330 overall averge in 1990, but Willie McGee had an average of .335 or so in the NL with the Cardinals, but his overall average dropped to the .320s after being traded to Oakland and hitting in the .260s.
