Is there a better way to show that closers are overrated than the last two Phillies years? '08 92 wins +119 /- and '09 93 wins 111. Brad Lidge blew ZERO saves in '08 and TEN in '09 and it had no effect on the overall record.

Kind of makes sense. Except one could argue that the team was better this year than last year. Adding half a season of Cliff Lee, 3/4 of a season of JA Happ, Raul Ibanez, and half a season of Pedro Martinez while subtracting half a season of Adam Eaton, 3/4 of a season of Kyle Kendrick, Pat Burrell, and half a season of Brett Myers.
Then again, Cole Hamels was worse in 09 than 08. And Rollins was worse. But other than them, no one really had down years (besides the aforementioned Lidge).
Zack and Miri made a Morneau and now it Byrnes when he Peavy's.
