    June 3rd, 1990 Update:

We have scratched and clawed our way to over .500 and in a tight race for 4th place. Not bad for a team that started the year 1-11. We are getting decent pitching right now and offense a little at a time. We would love to finish this season over .500 The draft is quickly approaching and it looks like Manny Ramirez has a great shot to be the #1 overall pick of the Tigers.

Re: A new decade in Detroit 1990 and beyond

The Tigers have already lost Scott Bankhead for 20 days and have now lost Dan Petry for 35. Kevin Ritz and Brian Dubois have moved into the rotation to take their spots, really hurts us pitching wise were we are already thin

A night after losing in 20 innings, the Tigers get shut out 3-0 and all the sudden are back at .500 following a 2-4 home stand. Offense just isn't consistent enough.

After the game Tracy Jones was recalled from his injury and Scott Lusader was sent back to AAA Toledo. Tracy Jones will take over in LF and Gary Ward will platoon with Bobby Higginson in RF.

Re: A new decade in Detroit 1990 and beyond

    Draft Recap

With the 1st overall pick in the 1990 amateur draft the Detroit Tigers select 18 year old RF from the Dominican Republic, Manny Ramirez. Manny will play a few games in AA but let's be honest here the offense needs his power and productivity badly.

With the 27th overall pick in the draft the Tigers select Jose Lima. A high control SP, you will sense a theme here. Lima also has some decent power to develop.

With the 53rd overall pick in the draft the Tigers select Cory Lidle another high control /power pitcher.

With the 79th overall pick in the draft the Tigers select Geraldo Guzman a decent control, plus power pitcher.

With the 105th overall pick in the draft the Tigers select Luis Andujar another solid control guy

With the 131st overall pick in the draft the Tigers select Bryan Rekar another good control pitcher.

Well I got a great hitting prospect that can hopefully dominate for me for the next 20 years and then in a pitcher rich draft felt like I got some good prospects that hopefully pan out. Thoughts are always welcome.

Lose 2 out of 3 to a Yankees team that has been struggling mightily. Up next a brutal 12 game road trip in Milwaukee, Kansas City, Cleveland and Boston.

Dominated by a medicore pitcher in this one. Cecil Fielder goes down for a week, Tony Phillips moves to 1B, Manny Ramirez is called up to DH and bat 4th. Manny played one minor league game and was 2-4 with an RBI.

Swept by a team that started the series 11 games under .500 and with a horrible pitching staff.

Re: A new decade in Detroit 1990 and beyond

June 18, 1990 The Royals come into this series 10 games under .500, a good place to win some games right. Well we took a 4-0 lead early and then couldn't score again the rest of the night and lost 5-4 in 10. Llyod Moseby who has been hitting 3rd for us is 7 for his last 41 with RBI. Trammel will get a shot to hit 2nd and Tony Phillips will drop into the 3 hole.
    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Tigers (DET) 0 0 1 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 4 6 2
            Royals (KCR) 0 0 0 1 3 0 0 0 0 1 5 11 2
    Starters: J. Robinson (6.2 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) vs. B. Saberhagen (3.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K)
    WP: T. Gordon (4-2) - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
    LP: M. Thurmond (1-3) - 0.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
    HR: M. Macfarlane (3), J. Conine (1)
    Stars: E. Romero (2-4, 0 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB), T. Fryman (2-4, 0 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB), W. Wilson (2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB), K. Stillwell (2-4, 0 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB), F. White (2-4, 1 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB)

June 19, 1990 Out hit the Royals tonight and got whooped 9-3. Manny Ramirez had his first 2 career RBIs.
    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Tigers (DET) 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 1 0 3 12 1
            Royals (KCR) 3 0 3 0 0 0 1 2 x 9 11 1
Starters: F. Tanana vs. M. Gubicza
    WP: M. Gubicza (3-9) - 7.0 IP, 10 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
    LP: F. Tanana (6-7) - 7.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
    HR: M. Macfarlane (4), B. Jackson (18)
    Stars: A. Trammell (2-3, 2 R, 0 RBI, 1 SB), T. Phillips (2-5, 0 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB), M. Ramirez (1-3, 0 R, 2 RBI, 0 SB), T. Fryman (2-4, 0 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB), K. Williams (2-4, 1 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB), J. Conine (1-4, 2 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB), D. Tartabull (1-2, 3 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB), B. Jackson (2-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, 0 SB), M. Macfarlane (3-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 0 SB)

June 20, 1990 Jack Morris comes out and stops the losing streak and we salvage 1 of the 3 in KC. Nice of the top of the order to produce a little. Tramm is hot since being moved into the 2 hole and Tony drove in 3 out of the 3 spot.
    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E

Starters: J. Morris vs. K. Appier
    WP: J. Morris (7-4) - 7.2 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
    LP: K. Appier (5-6) - 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
    SV: T. Hoffman (2) - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
    HR: M. Macfarlane (5)
    Stars: T. Phillips (1-3, 1 R, 3 RBI, 0 SB), M. Macfarlane (3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB)

    Team Notes:
Scott Bankhead will come off the DL and start game 2 in Cleveland, Brian Dubois will be optioned back to AAA. Cecil Fielder will also come of the DL for game 2 and Manny Ramirez will be optioned back to AA.

Re: A new decade in Detroit 1990 and beyond

June 21, 1990 Manny Ramirez made the decision to send him down a tough one as he went 3 for 5 with his first career home run. We already have Higginson and Fryman playing and producing while others like Tracy Jones and Moseby aren't doing much. Manny might not be down for long.
    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Tigers (DET) 0 7 1 0 3 3 0 0 0 14 20 0
           Indians (CLE) 0 1 1 7 0 0 0 0 1 10 14 1
    Starters: K. Ritz (3.2 IP, 11 H, 8 ER, 0 BB, 2 K) vs. J. Farrell (1.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 1 K)
    WP: J. Hesketh (2-2) - 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
    LP: M. Gozzo (0-3) - 1.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
    HR: M. Nokes (11), M. Ramirez (1), T. Jones (6), J. Thome (10), A. Belle (14), C. Snyder (2), C. James (2)
    Stars: T. Phillips (3-6, 1 R, 2 RBI, 0 SB), M. Ramirez (3-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, 0 SB), T. Jones (3-5, 4 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB), B. Higginson (3-5, 2 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB), A. Belle (2-5, 1 R, 4 RBI, 0 SB), C. James (3-5, 2 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB)

June 22, 1990 A night after scoring 14 we can only manage 3, frustrating. Bankhead pitched well coming in his first start in a month.
    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Tigers (DET) 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 3 5 1
           Indians (CLE) 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 2 x 5 9 1
Starters: S. Bankhead vs. T. Candiotti
    WP: T. Candiotti (6-5) - 8.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 6 K
    LP: S. Bankhead (6-3) - 7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
    SV: D. Jones (7) - 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
    HR: None

June 23, 1990 We score 7 runs after the 7th inning to take 2 out of 3 against the Indians. Winning road series is always nice.
    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Tigers (DET) 0 0 0 1 1 0 1 5 1 9 14 0
           Indians (CLE) 1 0 0 0 2 0 0 1 0 4 8 0
    Starters: J. Robinson (5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) vs. C. Nagy (6.2 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K)
    WP: J. Hesketh (3-2) - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
    LP: C. Guante (2-2) - 1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
    HR: M. Nokes (12), L. Whitaker 2 (12), C. Fielder (12), A. Trammell (9), A. Belle (15), D. James (5)
    Stars: L. Whitaker (3-3, 2 R, 4 RBI, 0 SB), A. Trammell (3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB), B. Higginson (3-4, 2 R, 0 RBI, 0 SB), A. Cole (0-3, 1 R, 0 RBI, 3 SB)

Team News: The Tigers fear Scott Bankhead's career maybe over as he has suffered a torn rotator cuff and will be sidelined for 494 days. Brian Dubois will take his spot in the rotation until Dan Petry comes back in 2 weeks. Bankhead was 5-3 with a 4.79 era in Detroit since his early season trade from Seattle.

Reliever Edwin Nunez has been activated from the DL and rookie John Kiely was sent back to AA.

Re: A new decade in Detroit 1990 and beyond

Well I still can't get the dynasty app to work so here we go old school.

    June 24th 1990

    Tigers 4
    Red Sox 1

Tigers go into Boston and take game 1 as Frank Tanana out duels Roger Clemens. The bad news is starting catcher Matt Nokes will be out for 238 days with a broken wrist.

    WP: F. Tanana (7-7)
    LP: R. Clemens (9-4)
    SV: M. Henneman (13)

    June 25th 1990

    Red Sox 5
    Tigers 4
    F/10

Mike Hennman blew the save and John Valentin hit a walk off single in the 10th, tough loss.

    WP: Rob Murphy (3-2)
    LP: Joe Hesketh (3-3)

    HR: Lou Whitaker (13)

    June 26th 1990

    Red Sox 6
    Tigers 3

A Mo Vaughn 3 run homer was the difference, Tigers loaded the bases in the 9th but failed to score.

    WP: Aaron Sele (1-3)
    LP: Kevin Ritz (0-3)
    SV: Jeff Reardon (3)

HR: Bobby Higginson (8), Mo Vaughn (11), Jody Reed (4)
