ESPN is saying that both Halladay and (Vernon) Wells could be traded... in the same trade, as a package deal.

Then, less prospects could be involved and bad contracts might come the other way back.

Wow. That would certainly reduce what they got in return

Vernon Wells, $18,000,000/yr (2008-14), 1.2 WAR in first year of contract, -0.8 WAR so far in his second year.

Pro: Probably giving up less top prospects to land both players in a deal, and of course, still getting Halladay.

Con: Being stuck with the contracts, especially Vernon Wells.

What teams, if any, would have the financial flexibility and roster space to accommodate both, if the "rumor" happens to be true? "You want Halladay? You're taking Vernon Wells too."

Highly doubt that would do it, even taking on Vernon Wells' contract.

I doubt anyone except the Yanks have to ability to take a deal like that. Unless Wells turns his career around, it would seem to me that long term negative value (both performance and contract) would more than offset any gain from Halladay for 1.5 years. Unless I was an owner that could afford to throw away $18m a year through 2014, they would have to give me prospects to take that deal.

Keep Pelfrey, Mejia, and Havens and throw in Luis Castillo, J.J. Putz, and a subscription to ESPN Insider, and you sir have a deal.

The team could always send back a bad contract that expires soon and I'm sure Toronto will take on some of the salary. So with the Cards, send a guy like Glaus or Loshe back. For the Phils, send Moyer and Romero or something (not many bad contracts).

Silva, Batista, Johjima, Halman, Clement, Aumont for Wells and Halladay

    j/k...I would never want Wells.

What makes u think I think he is good? He is cheap and a decently valauable outfielder. No gm would ever take the deal I proposed, I'm fully aware. But I don't think luddy gave birth to our lord and savior

    Re: Trade Rumors

So if the cards packaged something like, duncan, lohse, todd, jay, and ankiel for halladay and wells. What would be the benefit for toronto unloading the greatest pitcher in baseball? Other then 30 mil a year in contracts, which would be made up slightly with someone like lohse, or glaus. I don't see the cardinals taking on that much payroll for that long, especially if they plan to keep albert and go after another bat, like holliday's.

    Re: Trade Rumors

Lohse has a no-trade clause. I doubt he'd waive it to go back to the American League (in the AL East) and get hammered. Even if you picked up Wells' contract (or most of it), they'd probably want at least two top prospects for Halladay still. You can't offer them garbage.
