looks like a stellar catcher to me...

6 dominating seasons of 120+ rbi seasons... he fell off hard after that but still legit stats for a hall-of-fame catcher...

    Rockies>I did notice it.

For the catcher I thought the stats were solid enough for late consideration and he was. Compare his stats to other catchers during that era, it may give you a better idea.

injuries hit him like 3 of the next 4 years pretty hard...
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are .

i think mogul places to much emphasis on peak vs. overall career value

Wassit>You may be right, but if his average was under 300 with the rest of the stats he probably would not have made it. In the sim that I referenced in an earlier post, most players that made the hall had over 300 ba, most of the power hitters unless they had a high ba were late choices for the HoF. I took that sim into the 1980s. Top HR guy was over 700, his ba was like 245 though. Pretty sure he made it, basing it on a guy with 494 hr, #1 all time at time of retirement, hit 245 career and was a late HoF entry.

maybe its the fact the man won the whole thing 7 times i mean how many players have done that? and it looks like he was at least top 3 in rbi for like 6-7 years in a row

wow it looks like he didn't only win 7 times.. he won them all in a row and coupled with the fact he was most likely the MVP or at least top 3 on your team i could easily see how he got in especially if he got like playoff mvp a few times

The worst selection I've seen, was one game I did with the 2006 Tigers I believe. Basically, Jeremy Bonderman and Zach Miner developed into one of the greatest 1-2 punches in baseball history, combining for 11 cy youngs and about 550 wins (strangely enough, Verlander flamed out in that game).

A about 10 years into their run, Jair Jurrjens established himself as a #3, and ended up in the HOF. He only got about 140 wins, don't think he ever had a cy young, 20 win season, or season ERA below 3. Basically, he got in because he was in the Big 3, despite being nowhere close to the other two guys. When I can, I'll post his numbers.

Ok here are the "Hall of Fame" numbers on Jurrjens:

156-53, 3.89 career ERA, 1988.2 innings over 13 season, 1108 Ks and 555 BBs, only 1 20 win season, no Cy Youngs.

    That's a killer winning percentage.
I think, therefore I love the Dodgers.

    Jaker> why not?

    .679 win%
    over 200 wins
    over 2500 k
    around 2.75 k/bb

My opinion is the win% put him in as a late selection, everything else kept him on the outside looking in.
