Having a nice debate on Molina vs McCann for the AS game when this guys comes in and blows us away with his awesomeness:
My response:Okay.....first of all, you are not allowed to compare McCann and Molina. Molina IS the BEST catcher in baseball. PERIOD. If you want to say that McCann is the best OFFENSIVE catcher in the NATIONAL LEAGUE, we may take your ignorant post a little more seriously.
Second of all, please remember that there actually is a little truth to the whole "smartest baseball fans" thing. Don't try to tell us that your cather is the best in baseball whenever we watch the best play all season. If yours was the best, we would let you know.
Oh, and "he's getting better on defense" doesn't mean sh!t to us. We have been enduring Chris Duncans sub-par defense oposite the fruit of his bat (when there was fruit) for some time, so go try to turn some other fan base. Maybe some really dumb ones, like Cubs fans, for instance.
And when you say that McCann is "the best catcher in baseball", you are comparing him to all of the rest of the catchers in baseball, not just Molina. Dumb@$$.
To answer your question again, NO. McCann is not by any means a better catcher than Molina. AND NO. I would not trade 18 outs of Molina's defense for a few at bats by McCann. Anyone who would is $TUPID.

"Molina IS the BEST catcher in baseball."
No, he's not. He's a great defensive catcher, probably the best defensive catcher in the NL, but no where close to being the best OVERALL catcher in the MLB. That would be Joe Mauer.

Well, if you ever get over that lack of confidence, the sky's the limit.
"McCann is not by any means a better catcher than Molina."
So, offensively, Molina > McCann? Really?
When you add ALL THE FACTORS of catching, McCann's offense puts him over Molina as a catcher OVERALL simply because it is miles ahead of Molina. That's not an insult to Molina, as McCann is most definately the best offensive catcher in the NL and has a legitimate case for all of MLB.
"I would not trade 18 outs of Molina's defense for a few at bats by McCann. Anyone who would is $TUPID."
Actually as I said before, for the Cardinals I wouldn't either as you guys have enough offense to balance out. For the Braves though, defense or no, McCann is the better choice.
Another gem from the Braves board:
EDIT: Read a little further down:well we cant get run support for our three best guys Lowe, Jurjjens, and Vazquez and dont have a consistant power hitter and the A's dont look like their making a playoff run any time soon so why not trade for Holliday, maybe Francouer or Kelly, maybe even Schafer
So, don't trade anything of value and expect a top player? Mmkay. As long as no top prospects are involved I'm ok with it....NO Jason Heyward, NO Freddie Freeman, etc![]()
My favorite homer move is to demand the acquisition of something that everyone wants but is pretty hard to get. But just "get it done."
For example,
"I'm sick of Rodney and Zumaya blowing games. The Tigers won't win anything unless they get a shutdown closer like Papelbon or Nathan. Get it done, DD."
Of course, that in itself ignores the fact that the Tigers are in 1st place with Rodney and zumaya "blowing games," and also the fact that Rodney has not blown a save...

Asking for a headache, someone responds...What if we had this trade?
Frenchy
Johnson
Brandon Jones
Manny Acosta
for
RF-Jermaine Dye
RP-Matt Thornton
Prospect RP-Jon Link
We resign Dye next year keep him til Heyward gets 2 the bigs and let him retire as a brave. We need to bolster our bullpen and Matt Thornton would really upgrade it.
Response? So, you are proposing that the Braves give up the players that you don't like and are under performing to get players that you like? Would you like that trade if you were a Sox fan?
So... they're shitty players and THAT'S why the Sox will take them...NO!! These guys have proven they just don't have it. We don't need Kelly now with Prado and Infante comming back. Brandon Jones will not have much of a career because he has no power. Francoeur you really don't know but sometimes you have to take chances. I really think this could help the Braves. Dye is a veteran who provides power and veteran knowledge for this young team and sets it up for Heyward to take his spot in the next few years if they resign Dye.

Great trade but from what I've read Jeff Moorad who represents the new ownership group wants to reduce current payroll of 43.734 M 29th on salary list. Pierre makes 10 M this year and 10 M & 8.5 the following two years. Loney qualifies for arbitration meaning he will possibility receive 3 M plus for next year. Adian Gonzales makes 3.125 M. Moorad wants to be under 40 M, and difference in salary would increase total player's salary by 10 M. Moorad will not even consider it. I know Kevin Towers is the SD GM but Moorad makes the final decisions.

What if they traded Loney and Pierre to San Diego for Adrian Gonzalez?

Yeah, money is why they don't want Pierre and Loney. Uh huh.
I love how because Pierre had a hot May, everyone thinks he has trade value.

I would trade Motte to the Marlins for Uggla since the fish wouldn't mind another young reliever in their bullpen. Plus, trade Nick Stavinoha and Joe Thurston to Chicago for Buehrle since I think that Buehrle will end up in St. Louis anyways. Bay and Holliday post similar numbers, so sign Bay if you can't re-sign Holliday. The Cardinals also asked the Braves about Mike Gonzalez a lot last year, so you might as well sign him. He could share closer duties with Franklin, who sort of fell apart a the end of the season. Dotel is a good reliever with a great fastball. Kinda an older version of Motte. Re-signing DeRosa would boost your bench, and the fact that he could play any position is a bonus. Olivo would be an upgrade from LaRue. And finally, John Smoltz proved to me last year that he still has a few more years in him. To be on the safe side, you could sign him to a one-year deal.
