Yeah I definitely need some relief pitching. They seem to blow games for me a lot. I did try to get K-Rod but the Angels wanted wayyy too much. I'm thinking I may wait until the deadline or just wait for Papelbon and keep Cla Meredith.

Re: What If???? The Alternate Story of A-Rod

    May Continued

    25. Derek Lowe pitched well and carried the Sox to a lead but Keith Foulke came in to close it out and blew the save, causing the game to go into extras. In the top of the 13th, Trot Nixon blasted one over the right field fence. The White Sox had no response. Red Sox 7, White Sox 6

    26. Bronson Arroyo goes 8 innings, giving up 1 run as the offense gave him well more run support than needed. Red Sox 10, White Sox 1

    27. Pedro pitched 8 innings, allowing just 2 runs. Dan Wright pitched just as well for the White Sox as the game heads into extras. In the top of the 11th, Big Papi hits his 3rd home run in as many games to left and knocked in 3 to win the game as Timlin held on to the lead. Red Sox 5, White Sox 2

    28. Curt Schilling pitches 7.2 solid innings and David Ortiz hit a home run in five of the last 6 games. Red Sox 12, White Sox 3

    29. Despite a home run by Doug Mirabelli, Gabe Kapler, and 2 by A-Rod and a solid game by Wakefield, the Red Sox lost in extras. Twins 8, Red Sox 7

    30. Two big home runs helped the Red Sox win this game. David Ortiz hit a grand slam in the 1st and in the bottom of the 8th, Kevin Youkilis, who made his MLB debut today, got his first major league hit: a home run. Red Sox 9, Twins 2

    TRADE!!!

The Royals offered us a trade. Unfortunately, a relief pitcher was not part of it but we add a big time player. We trade pitching prospect David Pauley and OF prospect David Murphy for RF Juan Gonzalez. Gonzalez is 34 and doesn't have much time left but he can still produce, and that's all we can ask out of him right now. Hopefully we can grab a RP before the trade deadlne.

    Amateur Draft

Round 1: SP Michael Bowden 63/94
Round 2: LF Nick Evans 62/84
Round 3: RP Ross Detwiler 56/82
Round 4: RP Jeremy Sanders 48/82
Round 5: RP Chris Williamson 48/79
Round 6: RP Jay Pinato 48/72

    31. Bronson Arroyo pitches 8 shutout innings and Embree finsihes the game out. Red Sox 6, Twins 0

So why are David Ortiz and Jason Varitek listed under pitchers when they haven't pitched?

When you try to get an All-Star, they're usually way overvalued. I'd look at second-tier players which are much easier to get.

OK good, I was going to say that if you have them pitching, then you are in dire need of pitching help.

RED SOX ACQUIRE STREET FROM ATHLETICS

The Red Sox and Athletics have been in talks about a deal that would send RP Huston Street to Boston and a mix of starters and prospects to Oaklad. There are rumors that Trot Nixon and prospect Craig Hansen may be involved, along with others. Oakland has been trying to acquire an outfielder that can boost their wary offense all season.

    Official Trade:

The A's send RP Huston Street to Boston for OF Trot Nixon, RP Mike Timlin, OF Brian Daubach, and prospects Craig Hansen, Chris Smith and Adam Stern. Craig Hansen has the potential to be a solid closer and Stern has the potential to become a strong centerfielder that can hit for some power. Smith could be a back of the rotation starter in a few seasons.

That does not look like a realistic trade.

Re: What If???? The Alternate Story of A-Rod

The prospects part is pretty good - Street for Hansen (who was pretty highly touted at the time), Smith (middle reliever) and Stern? The A's were always willing to deal for future help, and those three plus some more would make sense for them.

Nixon and Timlin, being higher paid and older, don't make sense in the trade. Daubach was cheap but replacement level, so his part doesn't make sense either. But at least the prospect haul is close - although in reality Oakland would have demanded Delcarmen, Papelbon, or Meredith and another player, AND those three, in return for Street.

Anyway - nice dynasty, nicely done. As a sox fan, I was against the A-roid trade rumors in 2003, and looknig back I'm glad. I'd rather have had the Manny act, and now Bay, then dealing with the conroversy and moodyness and Boras-opting-out crap.

I'm not a huge fan of anything more than 4-to-1 trades. If I want a top pitching prospect, I usually end up giving a top prospect myself, instead of five mediocre prospects. But without knowing the ratings and salaries for all those players, it's hard to tell.

Still good for the (fictional) Red Sox though.

I'll add in Meredith and take back Timlin. (Nixon is only 30) and will be their best outfielder. btw, their starters before nixon were 30, 28, 28 years old. and nixon improves on one of the 28's so its really not bad considering they get stern too (mid 80s peak)

It's not that lopsided of a trade (aside from quantity). There have been much, much worse in the Dynasties Forum. Good idea replacing Timlin with Meredith.

    June

    2. Pedro goes 8 shutout innings and Foulke pitches the 9th as the Red Sox with with the help of Juan Gonzalez's home run. Red Sox 4, Indians 0

    3. Curt Schilling pitches the complete game as the Red Sox offense got 3 homers, one from Ortiz, Magglio Ordonez and Mark Bellhorn. A-Rod is now hitless in his last 8 at bats. Red Sox 12, Indians 2

    4. The Red Sox were led by Ortiz's 2 homers as Byung-Hyun Kim pitches for the injured Derek Lowe. Youk gets his second home run of his career. Red Sox 4, Indians 1

    5. The Red Sox had one pitcher pitch 2 innings and the rest pitched less as the Blue Jays squeak out a win. I'm going to have a talk with Terry about using Street. We gave up a lot, so we better use him! Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 5

    6. Bronson Arroyo continues his excellent season as he gives up just 4 hits in the complete game shutout, improving his record to 8-1. Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 0

    7. Did someone call for an encore? Pedro now hurls a complete game shutout, giving up just 2 hits and fanning 11 to be the first pitcher to win 10 games this season. His ERA is now down to a miniscule 1.55. Red Sox 8, Blue Jays 0

    8. Curt Schilling nearly makes it back to back to back complete game shutouts but he gets rocked for 4 runs in the ninth to bring in Huston Street for his first appearance as a Red Sock! He is flawless, as he fans 2 to get the save. Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 4

    9. Trot Nixon makes an error and goes 0 for 3 in his return to Fenway as the Sox maul Harden for the win. Red Sox 7, A's 3

    10. Ortiz hits another homer as he looks like he's on pace to hit 60 as the Red Sox win easily. Red Sox 9, A's 3

    11. Kevin Youkilis hits his 3rd home run as the Red Sox come back in the 7th to win. Red Sox 9, A's 3
