And to clarify my original post I did not mean to imply that it was the soldiers with the love of greed and power (though some surely do), but those who sent these people to kill and be killed.

To forget or pretend that this doesn't exist, IMO, would be a disservice to those who have fought and to any future members of the US Armed forces who may be called upon.
You were doing alright until this fili. You made your point, which I agree with prior to this, that was all that needed said, if anything needed said at all.

On the topic, my great grandpa fought in WW2, and though he has been gone a couple years, today reminded me of him and I miss him. I remember the stories he told me about killing Krauts, leaving early because he was shot in the back and looking at all the medals he received. I wish I could of asked for more stories, but I could tell when I was asking him the questions I did, he was in another mindset, saddened by all the killing he had done and I left it alone.

But one thing I am glad I said to him because thankfully I have more insight than most when I was in my early 20's I told him I appreciated all he done while he was in the Army and he is one of the reasons I am here today in a safe environment.

    Thanks Claude.

So? Memorial Day = US Holiday = celebrating the US troops. Does every other nation have a day to honor the deaths of American soldiers? I would guess no, but I'm sure most have a day to honor theirs. What's the big deal?

too put it nicely he is just being a prick to stir up trouble... there were repeated attempts to keep this a strictly a Memorial day tribute to those that helped keep this country and in some cases the world safe... and he didnt want that to happen.

It's no big deal. I said my piece. Ask everyone who got angry why it was a big deal

Maybe you are content making up all these divisions in the world. I'm not.

It'd be cool if we had one thread without a fight in it.

    Super cool.

You're the one saying this? ... in a thread where you knowingly made an unnecessary antagonistic comment?

As I clearly stated it was neither unnecessary nor antagonistic.

Anyone who finds their patriotism 'antagonized' by the mention that too many people have been sent off to kill and die just for someone else's love of power should take a look in the mirror.

I think it is disrespectful to overlook the fact that many innocent men and women have died for no damn good reason other than as a show of or as a way of increasing or maintaining someone's power.

And anyone who disagrees with that can take Ohms' nice and respectful advice and go screw themselves, IMO.

Re: Quick nod to Memorial Day

To purposefully work against the intended purpose of the thread especially to incite reaction is pretty much the definition of being antagonistic.

Unnecessary? Memorial Day commemorates all U.S. men and women who died while in the military service.

    Internet Troll
    1. A person who posts to a newsgroup, bulletin board, etc., in a way intended to anger other posters and to cause drama, or otherwise disrupt the group's intended purpose.
    2. A deliberately inflammatory post to a newsgroup, etc.

Greed and lust for power has caused the death of many, and not just service people , in this country. My brother was killed because of corporate greed and certain people's lust for power, but this is not the day set aside to bring that up, Labor Day is. I think most people here are aware of this and would rather forget the underlying circumstances for a short period of time while honoring those that have died in the service of this country. The original post was in that theme.

There are plenty of other times and places to bring out the negatives in a non-antagonistic manner, such as your own thread. Perhaps in your own thread you could bring up how every conflict this nation has ever been in was ultimately about greed and lust for power, or that any conflict there ever was driven by this. Perhaps if it really is that important to you, you could write letters to the editor, letters to Congress, join like-minded groups, join and become active in a local political party, etc. Things that have a chance of making a difference.

To those that lost their lives in the service of this country, you have my gratitude. To those that have lost family and/or friends who were in service to this country, you have my deepest sympathy.
Please make at least a small effort to stay on topic.
