    July 13-15, 1996

    (43-44) @ (36-55)

July 13, 1996- Pavlik pitched another amazing game, and it is really sad that he had to get the loss today; our offense could not do anything against John Burkett. We had our chances, 9 hits and 2 errors, but we could not come through when we needed to.

    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Giants (SFG) 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 2 1 5 8 2
           Rockies (COL) 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 2 9 0
Starters: John Burkett vs. Roger Pavlik
    WP: John Burkett (10-5, 3.96) - 7.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 137 pitches
    LP: Roger Pavlik (6-3, 3.65) - 6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 98 pitches
    SV: Keith Foulke (20) - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 18 pitches
HR: Barry Bonds (32), Dave Martinez 2 (10), Brad Ausmus (9)
    Following: Todd Helton (1-4, 1 RBI), Ken Griffey Jr. (0-4, 2 K)

July 14, 1996- We finally came through when we needed to. Craig Counsell walked to lead off the bottom of the 9th and then was sacrificed over to 2nd on a bunt. After a groundout from Mark Loretta, pinch-hitter Rey Sanchez drove a fastball back through the box for a game-winning single.

    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Giants (SFG) 4 1 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 7 16 1
           Rockies (COL) 0 0 2 0 1 2 2 0 1 8 13 0
    Starters: Dave Burba (5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 108 pitches) vs. John Burke (6.0 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 120 pitches)
    WP: Al Reyes (2-5, 3.89) - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 15 pitches
    LP: Jamie Brewington (0-1, 2.61) - 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 34 pitches
    HR: Ken Griffey Jr. (23)
    Following: Todd Helton (1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K), Ken Griffey Jr. (2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB)

July 15, 1996- This is the Jon Lieber that I know. He gave up 2 solo HRs in 7 innings and hopefully this is him returning to his old form. The rumors of him being up for trade are still ciruclating, but if he keeps this up then he's not going anywhere.

    Code:
                         1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 + R H E
            Giants (SFG) 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 2 7 2
           Rockies (COL) 0 0 0 5 0 0 0 0 x 5 9 0
Starters: Bill Swift vs. Jon Lieber
    WP: Jon Lieber (2-6, 4.23) - 7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 90 pitches
    LP: Bill Swift (6-5, 3.82) - 3.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 65 pitches
    SV: Al Reyes (18) - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 14 pitches
HR: Barry Bonds 2 (34), Craig Counsell (2), Jim Edmonds (22)
    Following: Todd Helton (2-4, 1 R), Ken Griffey Jr. (1-2, 1 R, 2 BB)

Inside the GM's Mind: I'll take 2 out of 3 from every series from here on out.

    NL West Standings:
    Code:
    Place	Team Record	GB
    1). Los Angeles Dodgers 50-42	--
    2). San Diego Padres 48-45	2.5
    3). San Francisco Giants	44-46	5.0
    4). Colorado Rockies 38-56	13.0
    Around the MLB:
    - Paul Molitor (FLA) called it quits after 18 seasons in the big leagues.
    - Barry Larkin (CIN) went 4-6 with 4 RBI en route to hit for the cycle.
