Wow, those totals for your pitching are atrocious! A whopping 273 hits and 105 walks allowed in only 35 1/3 innings? I take back saying your team was loaded.

A team DICE OF 4.70 and a team WHIP of 1.61 is horrible and I am thinking it's worst in the league

Even: The best speed on my team is an 80 and when you have Jim Thome you just wait for him to come up and jack one

    Re: Let's Try This Again

    May 3-5, 1993

    (14-15) @ (14-15)

May 3rd- This game made me have a couple of heart attacks. The first one happened when the Reds scored 3 runs in the 5th to take the lead and then continued to hold the lead. The next one was when George Brett broke from 3rd on a line out to center and barely made it home, tying the game at 3. The last one lasted for a while; it happened throughout the bottom of the 9th and the 10th inning when we scored 3 runs to win it 6-3. We scored the majority of our runs in the 10th on a 2-run double from Sid Bream (Who also had the game-tying sac fly in the 8th). (Won 6-3 in 10 innings)

    WP- Doug Jones (2-0): 1 IP, BB, 2 K, 3.38 ERA.
    LP- Rob Dibble (0-2): 1 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 3 ER, 2 K, 6.08 ERA.
    SV- Larry Andersen (2): 1 IP, 2 K, 7.24 ERA.
    HR- None

May 4th- Comparable to the last game my heart is in better shape, but now I need to go out and buy a wig. Every time they scored we countered, but, besides those times, we couldn't score any other inning. The one time we couldn't counter them was when they scored 2 runs in the 7th and we could only muster a solo run in the 9th. We wasted a good start from Jon Lieber in his first start back from the DL. (Loss 4-3)

    WP- Tim Belcher (3-1): 7 IP, 8 H, 4 BB, 2 ER, K, 4.91 ERA.
    LP- Jon Lieber (1-4): 6.2 IP, 9 H, 3 BB, 4 R (2 ER), 7 K, 5.67 ERA.
SV- Bill Landrum (1): 0.2 IP, BB, 0.73 ERA.
    HR- None

May 5th- This game really disappointed me yet, raised my spirits at the same time. The disappointment, obviously comes from losing, and just the fact that take away a couple of key innings or just add a couple of big hits for us and it's a whole new ballgame; the excitement is that Javy Lopez finally shows some signs of actually starting to hit. Lopez had 2 hits, both being solo HR, and it seems like he is actually is starting to hit. Hopefully he can continue to hit like this after he was demoted to the bench for only hitting in the low 200s. (Loss 7-3)

    WP- Jose Rijo (3-0): 8 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, HR, 2 ER, 6 K, 1.84 ERA.
    LP- Steve Trachsel (1-2): 6.2 IP, 7 H, 4 BB, HR, 4 R (3 ER), 4 K, 3.97 ERA.
    SV- None
    HR- Javy Lopez 2 (1, 2); Kevin Mitchell (6).

What I found out: Not Much.

    Re: Let's Try This Again

    May 7-9, 1993

    (14-16) @ (15-17)

May 7th- We get the first game of the series thanks to a solid performance from John Thomson, who was just coming off the DL, and Jim Edmonds, who hit 2 HRs. Things got a little to close in the 9th after the Astros scored 2 runs, but Doug Jones came in to shut the door for the victory. (Won 7-4)

    WP- John Thomson (2-1): 8.2 IP, 7 H, 4 BB, 4 ER, K, 2.73 ERA.
    LP- Mark Portugal (2-1): 3.1 IP, 10 H, 3 BB, 2 HR, 5 ER, 5 K, 3.51 ERA.
SV- Doug Jones (7): 0.1 IP, 3.29 ERA.
    HR- None; Jim Edmonds 2 (6, 7).

May 8th- One bad inning, the 6th, hurt us the best. Also, our lack of clutch hitting hurt us a lot because we were able to get 9 hits yet we only scored 2 runs. Nolan Ryan didn't have another good start, his second mediocre start in a row. Jim Edmonds continued to be on a tear as he hit another HR, a solo job, his 3rd in 2 games. (Loss 7-2)

    WP- Doug Drabek (3-4): 7 IP, 7 H, BB, HR, ER, 3 K, 3.42 ERA.
    LP- Nolan Ryan (3-2): 5 IP, 8 H, 3 BB, HR, 5 ER, 7 K, 6.07 ERA.
    SV- None
HR- Jeff Bagwell (2), Steve Finley (3); Jim Edmonds (8).

May 9th- This game situation seems eerily familiar. It was another game where we gave up the "winning run" the half-inning before we scored what had been the tying run. We gave up a run in the top half of the 8th to put the 'Stros up by 3 and then we went on to score 2 in the bottom half. Jim Thome was on fire today as he went 4-4 with a HR and Jim Edmonds' HR streak ended as he went 1-5 with 3 K. (Loss 6-5)

    WP- Pete Harnisch (2-3): 5 IP, 10 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 3.33 ERA.
    LP- Jon Lieber (1-5): 7 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 2 HR, 5 ER, 3 K, 5.79 ERA.
    SV- Billy Wagner (8): 1 IP, H, K, 3.29 ERA.
HR- Craig Biggio (7), Ken Caminiti (1); Randy Bush (4), Jim Thome (17)

    Re: Let's Try This Again

    May 10-12, 1993

    (16-19) @ (10-24)

May 10th- This is what happens when you get a decent team facing a team that is not so good. We took advantage of 3 Montreal errors to score 3 runs, even though we should've probably gotten more, and Steve Trachsel threw an absolute gem. Mark McLemore (Tell me how to pronounce his name) has been a great call up for us as he had 2 hits in the game (Boosting his average to .295), a run scored, and an RBI. No matter what though you can't win the game when you get shutout and that is what Steve Trachsel did for 8+ innings. He only allowed a run virtue of a solo HR from Wil Cordero with 1 out in the 9th. (Won 3-1)

    WP- Steve Trachsel (2-2): 9 IP, 6 H, 2BB, HR, ER, 5 K, 3.13 ERA.
    LP- Jimmy Jones (0-2): 7 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 R (ER), 5 K, 5.26 ERA.
    SV- None
    HR- None; Wil Cordero (2).

May 11th- This game was an amazing, back-and-forth game. For the first 3 innings every time somebody scored the other team matched them. The Expos went up by 1 with a 3-run 3rd and then up by 3 with a 2-run 5th. I started to worry as we got into the 8th down by 3 but that is when the magic began. We scored 2 in the inning thanks to an error (George Brett), walk (Thome), double (Spike Owen), and then a RBI groundout (Randy Bush). The game was forced into extra innings when Bill Doran hit a PH double to score Javy Lopez all the way from first. How come it seems like when you have a player who doesn't hit many homeruns he ALWAYS seems to hit one in a big situation? Spike Owen hit his 2nd HR of the year in the 10th, this one was a 3-run shot that gave us the victory. (Won 9-6 in 10 innings)

WP- Duane Ward (2-1): 1 IP, 2.76 ERA.
    LP- Brian Barnes (1-2): 1 IP, 3 H, BB, HR, 3 ER, 2 K, 5.01 ERA.
    SV- Doug Jones (8): 1 IP, H, 2 K, 2.87 ERA.
HR- Spike Owen (2); Darrin Fletcher (4)

May 12th- We were just dominated by their pitching staff in today's game. We only were able to get 4 hits, all were singles, and they were all recorded by the bottom 4 hitters in the lineup. Chris Nabholz and the Expos' pen did a nice job shutting down our offense after what happened last night. Nothing taken away from John Thomson who seems to be out most consistent starter this year. (Loss 2-1)

WP- Jeff Fassero (1-1): 1 IP, BB, K, 3.63 ERA.
    LP- John Thomson (2-2): 7.1 IP, 7 H, 2BB, 2 ER, 8 K, 2.68 ERA.
SV- John Wetteland (4): IP, 7.11 ERA.
    HR- None

What I found out: We had 2 major injuries this week. Nolan Ryan will miss 15 days due to a Chipped Knee Cap and Charlie Hough will make the starts during that time. Also, Kevin McReynolds Sprained his Ankle and will miss 11 more days so we brought up Wes Chamberlin to take his spot (and bat 7th) for those 11 days.

    Re: Let's Try This Again

    May 13-16, 1993

    (17-20) @ (18-20)

May 13th- Charlie Hough is really trying hard to not keep his job in the starting rotation. He just was overmatched again today and threw up another bad start. He went just over 5 innings and allowed 6 ER, raising his ERA to a whopping 7.34. The J&J Bros tried to get us back in the game by both smacking homers, but it wasn't enough. (Loss 7-4)

    WP- Ramon Martinez (2-2): 7 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 HR, 3 ER, 9 K, 4.93 ERA.
    LP- Charlie Hough (1-6): 5.2 IP, 9 H, 3 BB, HR, 6 ER, 5 K, 7.34 ERA.
SV- Stan Belinda (9): IP, 2.35 ERA.
HR- Cory Snyder (11), Orestes Destrade (1); Jim Edmonds (9), Jim Thome (18).

May 14th- This game was a very exciting game and helped me feel very good about the future of this ballclub. First was that Jon Lieber scattered 6 hits and allowed 4 ER and Javy Lopez hit 1 HR and had 3 RBI to help power our team to the victory. However, it wasn't either of those guys who came through for the Walk-Off hit; instead it was the player who Javy Lopez was starting in front of. We loaded the bases in the 9th, with 1 out, and we were down by 1. We did this by getting back-to-back singles from Spike Owen and Randy Bush to start off the inning, Wes Chamberlain did his job by sacrificing them over to scoring position. The Pirates opted to walk Javy Lopez to face the pitcher's spot with the bases loaded and that is when Brian Harper hit a 2-run single to center for the walk-off victory. (Won 5-4)

    WP- Doug Jones (3-0): 0.2 IP, 2 K, 6 Pitches, 2.76 ERA
    LP- Stan Belinda (2-3): 0.1 IP, 3 H, BB, 2 ER, 3.45 ERA.
    SV- None
HR- Cory Snyder (10); Javy Lopez (3).

May 15th- Good pitching by the Pirates and 4 home runs allowed them to take the 3rd game of this series. Steve Trachsel had a good start today, it was just that on this day Randy Tomlin was a better pitcher. Tomlin held us to 6 hits, not allowing anyone to have a multi-hit game, and he was able to strike 3. This is not what I had hoped for coming off of our last victory. (Loss 5-0)

    WP- Randy Tomlin (3-3): 8 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 0 ER, 3 K, 3.72 ERA
    LP- Steve Trachsel (2-3): 6.1 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 3 HR, 3 ER, 8 K, 3.32 ERA.
    SV- None
HR- Don Slaught (5), Jay Bell (2), Carlos Garcia (2), Orestes Destrade (2); None.

May 16th- It is good to see that our team is finally starting to win some 1-run ballgames. Today we were able to hold off a late Pirates rally to take the split in the series, and helped us gain another 1-run victory. We managed 2 2-run innings thanks to 2-run HRs from Javy Lopez and Jim Thome. That went along with 2.1 scoreless innings from the bullpen to hold on to the 1-run lead and give us the victory. (Won 4-3)

    WP- Bill Krueger (2-2): 6.2 IP, 9 H, HR, 3 ER, 6 K, 6.50 ERA.
    LP- Bob Walk (3-1): 6 IP, 8 H, 2 HR, 4 ER, 8 K, 2.92 ERA.
SV- Doug Jones (9): IP, H, 2.60 ERA.
HR- Lloyd McClendon (1); Javy Lopez (4), Jim Thome (19).

What I found out: RP Larry Andersen will miss 6 days due to Elbow Inflammation This makes our bullpen really thin as Jim Bullinger is being used to take John Thomson's start, who we just found out will miss 1 day due to him Brusing his Hand. T.J. Mathews and Tim Pugh will be called up to fill the voids.

    Re: Let's Try This Again

    May 17-19, 1993

    (20-22) @ (21-19)

May 17th- Can we please start actually scoring runs before the 7th innings in these types of games? We scored our first runs of the 9th inning with back-to-back doubles from Jim Thome and George Brett. That was followed by a Brian Harper, Pinch-Hit, single that tied the game. Our other catcher, Javy Lopez, followed that up by hitting a 2-run HR to give us a 5-3 lead. Doug Jones came into the game in the 9th and set the Giants down 1-2-3. (Won 5-3)

    WP- T.J. Mathews (1-0): IP, BB, K, 6.30 ERA.
    LP- Dave Righetti (1-2): IP, 4 H, HR, 4 ER, 4.32 ERA.
SV- Doug Jones (10): IP, 2.45 ERA.
    HR- Javy Lopez (5); None

May 18th- It is kind of hard to win a game when you only have 2 hits, the other team has 10, you have 2 errors, and you allow the other team to score more runs in 1 inning (3) then you had hits (2). Nothing else much to say, Ozzie Guillen scored our only run when he hit an inside-the-park HR. (Loss 5-4)

    WP- Bryan Hickerson (1-0): 1.1 IP, 3 K, 5.29 ERA.
    LP- Bruce Ruffin (0-2): 0 IP, H, BB, 2 R (ER), 3.80 ERA.
    SV- None
HR- Ozzie Guillen (1- ITP); None.

May 19th- This time we couldn't get the best of Bud Black and Jon Lieber has fallen on some hard times. Lieber allowed 2 runs over 7 innings yet gets his 6th loss of the year as we failed to score even 2 runs against Bud Black. We have had some success against Black this year, but he had to do well against us eventually. (Loss 2-1)

    WP- Bud Black (3-5): 8 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, HR, ER, 5 K, 4.76 ERA.
    LP- Jon Lieber (1-6): 7 IP, 7 H, BB, HR, 2 ER, 3 K, 5.34 ERA.
SV- Rod Beck (6): IP, K, 3.24 ERA.
HR- Mark McLemore (1); Barry Bonds (16).

What I found out: My bullpen sucks; Todd Helton replaced George Brett at first base.

    May 20-23, 1993

    (20-24) @ (21-24)

May 20th- I think that my team is trying to give me a heart attack or at least make me go bald with all of these late inning comebacks or 1-run victories. We were down by 4 runs after the Reds scored 2 runs in the 1st and 3rd innings and we couldn't score until the 6th. We scored solo runs in the 6th and 7th innings to get within 2 runs and then we broke it way open in the 8th. We got our runs with a sac fly and 2 singles to put us ahead by 1. The Reds threatened in the 9th when they had a runner on 3rd with 1 out but Jones got the next batter to ground back to him and he ended the threat by throwing out the runner at home. (Won 5-4)

WP- John Candelaria (3-0): 2 IP, BB, K, 6.52 ERA.
    LP- Jeff Reardon (3-2): 0.2 IP, 2 H, BB, ER, 2.70 ERA.
SV- Doug Jones (11): IP, H, 2.21 ERA.
    HR- Reggie Sanders (9); None

May 21st- We just got out played (again). The Reds scored runs in all 3 innings and they scored multiple runs in 4 of those innings. Not much else to say about the bad performance of our pitchers, but Javy Lopez did have a good game as he went 2-3 with a HR, 2B, and 2 RBI. (Loss 11-3)

    WP- John Smiley (2-5): 8 IP, 5 H, BB, 2 HR, 3 ER, 5 K, 6.75 ERA.
    LP- Bill Krueger (2-3): 5 IP, 7 H, 3 B, 2 HR, 4 ER, 3 K, 6.57 ERA.
    SV- NONE
    HR- Kevin Mitchell 2 (9, 10); Javy Lopez (6), Jim Thome (20).

May 22nd- This game started out looking like it was going to be a slugfest as the Reds scored 3 in the top of the first, we scored 5 in the bottom half of the 1st, and then the Reds tied the game with 2 more runs in the top of the 2nd. We were able to overcome some solo runs that the Reds scored by scoring 3 times in the 6th. The top 5 hitters of our lineup scored runs (The top 4 all scored 2 runs), and we did all this scoring without a Home Run. (Won 9-7)

    WP- Jim Bullinger (2-1): 3 IP, H, 3 BB, 4 K, 4.94 ERA.
    LP- Dwayne Henry (0-3): 1.1 IP, 2 BB, 2 ER, 7.20 ERA.
    SV- Doug Jones (12): IP, H, K, 2.11 ERA.
    HR- None.

May 23rd- We put this game away early when we scored 5 runs in the bottom half of the first (for the 2nd straight game). John Thomson and the bullpen held the Reds to 4 runs as we win the series 3-1. Jim Thome hit another HR (21st) and is 7 RBI short of the Triple Crown. He is behind Juan Gonzalez who had 8 RBI in a May 17th game and 6 RBI in a May 19th game (both against Cincy). (Won 6-4)

    WP- John Thomson (3-2): 6.1 IP, 9 H, 4 BB, 4 ER, 6 K, 2.86 ERA.
    LP- Brett Tomko (0-3): 6 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 2 HR, 6 ER, 4 K, 5.47 ERA.
SV- Doug Jones (13): IP, H, 2.01 ERA.
HR- None; Daryl Boston (1), Jim Thome (21).

What I found out: Our pitching seems to be coming along. Jim Thome is under .400 but has an opportunity to get the Triple Crown. Doug Jones is, somehow, leading the league in saves.

WOW, almost .500! I thought you'd be winning the World Series by now, but that's still respectable.

Yea, I really like playing against Cincy. We are 8-3 versus them

Kind of like the Braves dominating the Rockies during their first few seasons IRL.
